In his recent interview with Justin Hawkins Ren explains that he thinks for the most part in terms of albums, even if they have not been released as such. He sees the ‘Bard-core’ pieces - Hi Ren and Jenny & Screech as being separate from the album concept though. I'm not one that's anti-pop. And you're right, I think to blow up, you have to play in the "pop" realm. I, however, don't think Ren does music like this one to blow up. Of course he wants people to listen to the music he makes, and the more the merrier. But I truly think he does stuff like this more as a homage, and for the fun of it. And you are certainly right - Ren has the ability, charisma and drive to get to the top of the pile.
