I was 14 years of age in 1978. I loved this song the first time I heard it. So much has changed in 45 years.....my Mum and Dad are both gone........and London (where I was born and raised) is so different from the London of my teenage years. As I listen to this song, I am transported back to the late 70s, and a feeling of nostalgia engulfs me........how I wish I could go back, just for a short while...............

The 70s were the best. I was 19 in 1978 and just and just about to start a job which I would be working at for 43 years, taking early retirement in 2022. Those were the days, but they have gone way too fast.

Am 63 now, started work at 16 in an office in early 1978. It's not just the music I miss, but the family whom I thought would live for ever and the country I could never have imaged would have been lost to us all for all time. We were very lucky to have experienced those times.

2023 and still listening. This reminds me so much of hitchhiking with my then boyfriend and the excitement of being together on the road; he lived up north, too, so the everlasting association was made between these lyrics, him and the north. I had such a youthful, all-encompassing desire to be always with him; I was so young (and foolish) and I knew next to nothing about the real world.

Mum commented recently that for years he'd change radio station in the car if it came on. He's now very elderly but he and I were popping out for a Tim Hortons and what came on the radio but Annie and Northern Lights, he commented how much he f'ing hated this song, I turned it up and we both sang it at the top of our voices in the car. I still love Annie and have, I think, every recording she ever published. Beautiful lady wonderful voice.

ALWAYS thought this would make a good Christmas song. A few well placed bell sounds in it and a change of lyrics: CHRISTMAS LYRICS: Destination Yultide bound I turn to see the winter flakes behind the wind Horizons seem to beckon me Learned how-to-cry-too-young-so-now I live to sing The Christmas stars are in my mind They guide me back to you Horizons seem to beckon me Learned-how-to-cry-too-young-so-now I live to sing You know it's hard away from you Travelling roads and passing through It's not for money and it's not for fame I just can't explain, sometimes it's lonely Marking the space between the days Early hours pass away I sing to you on Yultide nights I sing for you of Christmas light Past or future, here or there Christmas comes in words from you, so talk to me I hear your voice, it comforts me In winter dreams I take your hand, you walk with me The Christmas stars are in my mind They guide me back to you Peace enfolds the still night air Home again I look for you and find you there Destination homeward now Take-the-easy-way, bring me down Making the hard way now I see Hard to be really free, I'm-missing-you-near-me Marking the space between the days Early hours pass away I sing to you on Yultide nights I sing for you of Christmas light The Christmas stars are in my mind They guide me back to you The Christmas lights are in my eye They guide me back to you The Christmas stars are in my mind They guide me back to you The Christmas lights are in my eye They guide me back to you The Christmas stars are in my mind They guide me back to you

Although I liked the song when it was released, I was at the time much more into Punk, Devo, the Ramones, Sex Pistols, etc. Now that music is no where near so perfectly evocative of the halcyon days of 1978 when, at 23 years old, my adventures in this world only just beginning. The Northern Lights were indeed in my eyes. Thanks, very much, for all the wonderful memories. These were happier times, full of hope and promise for me and for the World.

I was always a fan of Annie as she came from my home town Bolton north west England but when I worked away from home a lot it was always my going home song as I sat on the plane especially when we were on final approach to Manchester airport. I love a song for all seasons album and yeah i miss the 80's 90's as well, i'm 54 now and still love all this

It always has reminded me of Castleton and around the hills, in the Peak District, especially as the evening draws in. It was in the charts just after I left school in West Lindsey.

That's definitely a Northern thing Keith, right with you on that. First heard it when I was 12 in parents car going 'over the tops' (a country road towards Blackburn) at night, in front of us the spread of distant street lights from several East Lancashire towns. No LED lighting back then, so it was the good old yellow/orange glow of sodium-vapor. Happy days, happy memories.

The BBC had a silly rule thst forced artists to rerecord their songs for broadcasting. They wouldn't allow them to mime over the original recording. This is why this sounds quite different to the single/album version.

I was 12 when this was on and I was mildly obsessed with Annie, I taped the song off the radio, complete with DJ talking all over the start and played back to back it until my Dad had finally had enough and it 'disappeared'. I haven't heard it much since but this is really brilliant, she is still a beautiful and talented lady.
