Renault clio 1.2 16v idle problem

My clio keeps on starting at over 1000 rpm but when I rev it slightly it drops and jerks like it's going to cut out, I've had crankshaft position sensor fitted thinking it would solve the problem. I'm not great with cars so some help would be great. I won't be buying a French car again as the are simply a hole in your pocket!!!

Cars booked in for its MOT and have asked to clean the throttle body to and will comment back if it's sorted thanks for the advice! :)

Mine does this on a cold start and the rear exhausted vapour disappears almost immediately once the engine is warm. I never have this in summer but only in the winter or really early hours of the morning. I thought this was a problem too but my local garage reassured me and explained why it does this. To my little knowledge at the time it takes a lot to kick start an engine and providing the revs do not go over 1500rpm, it is normal. Anymore than that and I am sure a dash light will illuminate to tell you about a problem as that would not be right without any human involvement.

Hey, it's normal for cars to idle over 1000 when just started and drop under 1000 when the car is warm, however what isn't normal is the problem you have here. My bet is that it will be the throttle body that needs cleaning, ring your local garages and get a quote, I'm positive this will cure this problem. -Lewis.

First, never rapidly press the throttle like that, just gently press it to see if it drops. Mine does the same when its having its 'moment', for me it's the lambda sensor. Mine is going in for its MOT tomorrow so i'll see what happens with mine! Check out my clio videos too, got plenty!

Mine was a faulty coil pack and leads

My Clio is currently doing this, did you manage to get it fixed?

it's not a problem that needs fixing... it's meant to do that.

cars auto choke... it keeps it higher on the revs for cold starts aha then after a while it going down, it's with every Clio

I got Renault Clio 1.4, has idle problem sometimes up and down

@@BMatyika look for "earth" connections,i changed the fkin motor and the its still all Like before,Lucky me i Sold it to scrap yard for good price and no worries anymore 😂
