Great fix. I recently fixed my brothers Grand Scenic heater resistor plug, that was melting and causing resistor failures. The fix addressed a few problems, one making it easier to access. The replacement plug comes with a loom, so we cut and use solder shrink to link the cables. So now, if the resistor blows, it can be changed outside the aperture of the dashboard, due to the extended length of the loom. Renault electrics are terrible.

Thanks very much for this - great to re-instate speed 2 on my heater fan. The crucial issue is knowing where the part is and how to access it, and your video made it easy to find. In fact some previous mechanic had simply taped back the speed 2 wire, where it had melted out and no doubted shorted! I simply soldered a new wire in place as you suggested and all fine.

Plugs are about £8 on eBay if the customer doesn't want to go down the dealer route. I think Pages etc. do repair kits also. With all the recalls across most manufacturers for this sort of thing I wouldn't be opening myself up for potential aggro. Enjoy yr vids, keep it up 👍

Hi Louis! I encountered such a malfunction. Contact overheats due to huge current! It is necessary to measure the motor current. Perhaps the current is above normal. Replace air filter (engine overload). I look with interest, Denis!

Thing to be wary of soldering high current cables is the high current can unsolder the joint. Hence why they crimp connections. If you do want to solder, a way round this is to wrap some tinned copper wire around the joint, in effect binding the wires together and creating a good physical connection. Then solder up the whole thing.

Great video .. very helpful - thanks. Mine has a similar fault, but not exactly the same .. the fan is coming on the whole time at maximum speed, no matter which position the control is in. But as in your video, it is a burned connection in the connector to the resistor module. I will decide now whether to bypass the connector as in your video, or get a new connector and heat-shrink the wires.

Be aware the rear light cluster multi plugs also suffer from contacts over heating causing the plastic plug to melt, usually happens to the earth connection, solution is to make a permanent connection to body from the bulb carrier assembly earth terminal.

Which row and number in - is the fans fuse on? I tried to replace which I thought it was and it didn’t fix it 🤷‍♂️ or perhaps I need to try what you have here. My fan stopped working yesterday. When it did work - it only worked on fan speed 4? 1 - 3 did nothing at all.

@@LMAutoRepairs little info for those whom may concern: My problem was lack of 4th gear. Socket, plug and insulation around green wire were melted. But that wasn't the issue at the moment, since it wasn't making shortcircuit. I fixed it the way that is shown in video. Lack of 4th gear was caused by lost of contact in plug for the thickest cable, violetish one. Since it's pretty big and hard to solder, I used Wago x3 to connect it to the black wire outside the resistor box. In later version of Renault cars, this resistor had 2 more contacts to lower the current which flows thorugh them. If you want to fix this thing in most elegant way, you should buy new plug with 7 contancts or more (you can leave the rest unused) and new resistor with 7 contacts. You just bridge this two extra pins with 12V and ground cable. With resistor you will get new connector for fan side. Take care of it's shape, because there are two of them, however you can cut old one and fit it to new resistor cables. Good luck :)
