The RS version will be sick. Imagine this with sport suspension, recaro seats, wide low profile tires, 3 door version with shorter wheel base and slightly lower roofline, and a 150-160hp turbo engine.

I went from an Alfa Remeo 147 2L T-spark, to the Twingo 0.9L turbo. It's 9.5secs 0-60, I don't notice a big turbo lag. I'm happy on the motorway to about 85mph, after that it feels a bit light. Great fun on country roads. On combined driving I'm getting just under 50 to the gallon, after that I totally agree with the review. I've had mine from new for 3yrs, 29,000 miles, I just don't want to swap it!
@jonathandonne14328 жыл бұрын
I have been running one of these for a year & I love it. I have the 900cc 90bhp tce Dynamique. 50-60mpg around town, brilliant acceleration for a city car & great on the motorway. This car has a character too.
@beaverweaver8 жыл бұрын
I have had the naturally aspirated engine version since February and absolutely love it. It has so much character, very practical for its tiny size, great fuel economy, and nippy around town! I'm also still getting used to all the admiring stares and questions from people wondering what I'm driving and asking if they can look inside!! This car deserves to sell a lot more!!

i have one for one month because renault crashed my car on delivery, how shit i know. I dont agree with some of what Mat says. It is actually very quiet on the motorway, didn't notice any wind whistle and the engine does not drone. You forget its rear wheel drive because it feels just like a normal car! The turning circle is hilariously short, it amazes everyone who sees it. I agree it does bob over bumps but you don't really notice it. The 70BHP has similar performance to a 1.2 corsa or clio so its actually not that bad. I'm averaging 45MPG and I'm ragging it around. Just thought id point some things out :)

A very helpful road test as I am testing the 0.9 TCe version in a couple of days time to possibly replace my Clio which has the same engine and goes like a rocket. A black Iconic version in my local dealer's showroom looks really tempting but it needs to be discounted before I'd buy it.

first car which I still own is a 2015 Smart Forfour, which is basically the same car minus some appearance differences. It crashes about, it's dismally anaemic, quite frankly dangerous trying to merge onto motorways, not to mention its dodgy handling in adverse weather conditions with absolutely no weight over the front wheels to help with stability. The start/stop system is comically spluttery, the headlights you cant hold a candle to a zippo lighter, and its really roly-poly around corners. However parking is just so hilariously easy and it costs you less than a sandwich these days to keep it running with fuel being not a problem at all, and the insurance group on mine is 2. Id probably recommend it if you live in a fairly built up area rather than out in the sticks like me as its clearly more home weaving about a high street than a freeway but even so, its left-field without being absurd. I'm likely gonna "upgrade" to something more substantial in about a year's time that has a little bit more boot space and "road grab". Twingo/Forfour will just get you where you're going and for that despite its shortcomings with it being completely bonkers layout-wise I'm extremely thankful for it giving me my first shot into driving.

I think the person who questioned the Twingo's ability in snowy conditions has wrongly pre-judged it, while front engine / rear wheel drive is certainly challenging in such conditions, rear engine / rear wheel drive is a different beast altogether. I remember a neighbour in the 1980s with a Skoda Estelle who routinely trashed all of us with his ability to drive up our rather steep avenue.

With the RWD/Rear engine layout it seems that Renault has missed an opportunity to exploit a unique selling proposition of creating a fun car to drive. At least it has an excellent turning circle. The bonnet area that Matt showed us @9:10 is disappointing. A 'mini boot/trunk' would have been a great idea like the old Skodas had.

My first thought is that your average mechanic won't be too happy with where this engine is placed. That's going to mean more money you pay for his aggravation. I know all these online features sound good in theory. But I can't help but feel this will cause many accidents, because it can get distracting. 33 mpg isn't bad, but I expect more from a smaller car. I did feel yellow was a nice color for it. It's like a big bumblebee. (I mean that in a good way.)

Rear engine cars litter history with blandness and mistakes, like Chevrolet Corvair; Simca 1000; Škoda 130; NSU Prinz; Renault 4CV; BMW 600 (some others have been posted about in other comments). The 911 is also famous for some wayward handling in the past. A point to note is when using your phone as an app manager one could be technically breaking the law as you are not allowed to use your mobile phone whilst driving. The law does not say it prohibits only making phone calls. The phone also hides the radio buttons on the dash...why?

So basically, the Twingo is a slap in the face to all the RWD-only trolls. FWD is what made the original Mini great, and it's no wonder why everyone else uses it. I can't imagine how terrible this thing must be in snowy conditions with it having a short wheelbase AND RWD. Shame, since it's a really good looking car and well packaged...
@SirBioSnake9 жыл бұрын
Rwd cars are normally bad in the snow because their is no weight over the rear wheels so this car could prove just as good as any fwd car in the snow. Also the lack of power will mean it won't have tendency to oversteer like many other rwd cars.

AdrianC12345 It needs to be a cheap car. What do you expect? It's a brand new (old) concept which nobody used in the past 15 years or so. and they took a big gamble with it. They surely saved money on the setup of the car, or they made it as easy as possible to drive. I'm pretty sure that with some suspension tweaks and damper settings you can make this car a brilliant driving machine! In fact, In 2 weeks I'm going for a test drive at my local Renault dealer.
