As many of you may know I've owned and sold lots of Renault Zoe's 22kwh models but this is the first Zoe ZE40 i've had it and best of all its the new R110 motor with more Horse Power so i thought its about time I did a review of this Zoe R110 and gave you my honest thoughts of its improvements including its new interior and extra brake horsepower i'll also note some of its down falls.

I’ve had my R110 ZE40 for exactly one month and it’s been a joy to drive. I’m retired and no longer make many long cross country drives. I’ve spent £0 on charging as there’s a good and free public charger access where I live. In fact I’m a little fitter as the nearest charger is a 10 minute walk from my house in a leisure centre attached to a small country park. A good walk, a cheap cuppa and a free charge, what’s not to like? I watched your channel for months before taking the plunge and have no regrets. Thank you for helping to guide me to a new and superb driving experience.

Sounds like a perfect car for many people, and that's one of Renault's great strengths, historically. The price isn’t too steep either. Thanks Nicolas.

Hi Nick, I'm thinking of buying a Bevin the next 12-15 months and the Zoe looks the best bet given my limited budget. Your video was very short, but really showed all I need to know. It was better than other longer videos I've watched. I really like your channel because you understand the technical details better than a lot of other channels. Keep up the good work. I have had the original Zoe and now the R110 ZE40.This is the best one so far because of the extra range.Power upgrade is great as well.I can live with the 22 Kwh charging rate as most of my charging is off solar panels.

Depending on your use case 22kw charging can be totally fine! in fact my wife could live with 3.3kw charging as she never travels far!

As a recent new R110 owner, I agree with your plus points. I'd also add that the front seats are very comfortable and substantial - they feel like they came from a larger car! Most regrettable feature is the inflexibility over the battery lease. Why is there no post-purchase option to buy the battery outright? At least the forthcoming ZE 50 has a battery purchase option, but the price looks like its going to put the Zoe up against a number of alternative mid-priced EVs with a 250+ mile range. This could make the Zoe less attractive as it is a very small car for the new price. Ciao.

I recently did 261 miles on a single charge in my R110. I hire mine monthly for an all inclusive fee so I’ll be able to upgrade when the Zoe ZE50 comes out. Looking forward to more flexible charging with the addition of CCS 50kW to the already handy 22kW AC.

6.3. Average speed was only 12.4 because I live in London! Warm weather helped.

Can someone explain what the motor (traction system) has to do with the charging system? I've heard about the Q and R diferences regarding charging but don't understand why charging is connected to traction.

I believe it feeds the charging current through the motor into the batteries, cutting the Zoe's build cost by not having a separate charge unit. The Q90 Zoe had a Renault motor that could do that at 43kwh, the R90 and R110 charge at max 22kwh because the motors came from other manufacturers (Continential) which weren't designed to do this.

not really anything in it so to speak of, I know some R have a habit of chewing the reduction gear but no pattern of failure and there's far more of them

Nick, what does the charging limit mean in ‘real life’? Does it mean you can’t charge at the ultrafast chargers on motorways? Or you can, but it charges more slowly?

It just means that most you can pull from a charger is 22kw

Hi Nick! Just a question about my Zoe 2016 modell, is it possible to have the heater on for the whole night ? Like for sleeping purposes, or is that simpley not possible ? Keep Up the great work you do for the EV community

@@NicolasRaimo Thanks ! It Will be a pain to press the "pre heat" button all the time while sleeping so.. i wont be doing that hahaha. Thanks for the answers.

Bought one of these last year and delivered in June 2019. Faulty at delivery (failed R-Link unit - also controls charge scheduling). 7 weeks in garage and returned still with online services and additional faults added during the repair (no folding mirrors, part of the heating system missing). Dealer promised to rectify all in one go. Opened a complaint with Renault and no action (but promised all sorts of 'goodwill'). By December had had enough; then the replaced R-Link unit failed. Vehicle has been at dealer's ever since, so more than 50% of its life off the road for repair. I wrote to reject the car in December but Renault refusing to accept this - no reasons given. My original complaint was arbitrarily closed so I now have a new one. However, the vehicle has allegedly just been fixed and Renault state I have to pick it up. They acknowledge my ownership is 'not what they aspire to', but won't replace the car or (despite the 8 months of evidence) acknowledge that it likely has an underlying problem; I asked for a performance guarantee when it was returned but they don't have enough faith in their own product to agree to that. By the way, they do acknowledge that the car had a production problem that (for the first repair) required the replacement of the complete dashboard wiring loom, the R-Link and other, undisclosed, computer units. Looks like it's going down the legal route now. Otherwise, in the limited time I have been able to drive it, and for the parts that worked I really liked it. Let down by reliability compounded by both the dealer's and Renault's customer 'service'.

Not that am aware of but there’s nothing stopping someone removing the badger them selfs and putting another on

@@NicolasRaimo that's true. I'm looking at a 68 plate described as a q90 ze40, but the gallery pics didn't show the '40' markings, so it was confusing me 🤔 I may need to use your VIN system.

@@davidhenning9727 the range on the guessometer should be the biggest give away it will also be on the front door jam, if your not needing a Q motor i got 2 R motors NEW due in at my work. If you want to double check these models pop over to the "What motor" video and check the vin leter there is an A/B its a 22kwh battery

With the new ze50 Zoe with ccs charging available, would it be a good car for the U.S. IF they sold it here?

It depends, you Americans tend to prefer large cars the zoe would love rather tiny on US roads, its smaller than a leaf and a golf to try give you context but bigger than a 500e or an E-Up. In that respect it might fit for inner city driving however you could argue it would always of met inner city needs without CCS. Would you purchase it if it was in the US?

@@NicolasRaimo yes. I have a 2008 Honda civic hybrid right now with 225000 miles on it. I like the size because of ease of parking and in construction zones I don't have to worry wether or not if I'm going to fit through them, I slip easily through. And as long as I buy the Honda spec tires I can get about 53 to 54 mpg average for a tank in warm weather and in the 40s in winter. I've always thought about in the summer if I had an electric car if somehow you could harness the power of the sun to recharge at work while sitting in the parking lot all day would be great. Then I saw that video on so no motors. But I've really wanted a Zoe for it's size and efficiency especially when they boosted the range . My daily commute is 30 miles to work and 30 miles back but only 3 hours to charge except for the days off. 3 days I could plug in all night. No charging at work though. What do you think?

sounds very easy in a ZE40 however if you check my LEAKED video about the ZE50 they have a new car with about 250 range!

I have R110 18 February and it don't have Android auto.Had contacted with Renault support and they told me that my model don't have it!?!? Signature model..... Any body please comment.....

all r110 have android auto if you go to Rlink settings see if it says Android auto there? if its still not there you can hack it to allow it to work but it should arrive with it!

@@user-zn9de4bq2i try a HIGHER quality USB lead, and to check you Rlink has android auto do this go to Rlink, click HOME button, MENU, System, Android Auto Settings should be there if not your need to hack it

Visibility, driver seat adjustment, parking ease, etc. are missing. Read a good car review; make an outline of main points covered, and use it.

22kw ac charging huge mistake , why anyone would buy one considering you may have it for over 5 years to make economic sense and in ireland it has been announced that 50 22kw ac chargers are to be upgraded? to 50dc charging , so more limited from charging availability and speed just crazy slow for such a big battery , no more flexible than the 22kwh battery version especially the Qmodel 43kwac version. Personally had a chance to upgrade to this version ,low mile demo version at good price , but that was the killer fault with it slow charging , step backwards , actually new version with only 50 dc charging also mist the bus, better spent your money on the new 208e , or corsa , basically same with good looks and 100dc charging and though slower ac charging that’s a bit slower . Price and availability may be Renault selling advantage.
