Great channel Blaine. Watched several of your videos and learnt an awful lot. I'm just a DIY guy who finds this stuff fascinating/magical to watch. You have a new subscriber.! Did a plastering course at a Building Skills Centre (Yeovil) quite a few years back where they taught you how to build your own beads and get them plumb and they then formed the guides for when you drew the feather edge up the wall and the benefits of applications using trowel - float - trowel for a super flat finish. Your review of the Webber product is very timely as I have a wall where the render blew and was hacked off but there remains a base layer that is rock solid. Trouble is that neither the builders not I have manged to get a new application of sand/cement to stay keyed more more than a few weeks. It might be that I have to go back to bare blocks but the base render the very hard and I don't want to risk compromising the double glazed units with the vibrations that a SDS chisel might generate while hacking it off. This stuff might just be the answer. I see Webber do their own render bond product as well. This could also be just the ticket for internal walls that have been coated with Thoroseal damp proofing as well. Great job with the channel!

Hi, just wanted to say a big thank you, I'm I guess a builder by trade and do a fair bit of internal plaster work, a bit of sand a cement but always hatted it. I remember grinding a slot for a lead flashing into some new render and was put of by how soft it was! after watching this video I decided to take the plunge and do my own extension, 45 bags of OCR, was a joy to use and really happy with the results. I also scratched it before Christmas then top coated last week no problems. Thanks for all the info love the channel.

@darrylfranklin7490
@darrylfranklin7490 Жыл бұрын
Used plenty of this , I use it over a rend aid scratch on troublesome or smooth bricks , Always a believer that a scratch coat should be left for a few days or your defeating the object of a scratch coat as going straight over it just smooths the coat underneath anyway and then has no solid key , You also gotta catch this product at the right time or can be a pain to float up, When floated at the right time it does rub up lovely though and is a nice consistent finish, Sand and cement is just as good and a lot cheaper it’s just getting your mix ratio right with spot on correct bucket measurements not shovels !! and experience with using it ,

Yer thats what webber advised to do. They said use rendaid with mesh at 3mm thickness, then stipple roll and let it properly set. Then after a day or so apply the OCR ontop with mesh and finish as required
@leedavis7663
@leedavis7663 Жыл бұрын
It still cracks ,if the building is going to move it will crack even with mesh.I do agree it’s a decent product but I’m sure you will agree it doesn’t rub up or look as good as sand and cement.I would only use this product as part of silicone system or with some other decorative product over the top. Good video B.
@bricky5862

I’ve only ever used ms20 but went back to standard s&c because although I liked the consistency and same day scratch and top I found ms20 a ball ache to rub up being so sticky, I wasn’t as bothered the bigger aggregate brought to the surface when sponging but it was definitely not as easy to rub up as standard, maybe Weber is better?
@PlasteringForBeginners
@PlasteringForBeginners Жыл бұрын
You have a point Lee. And I actually said in the video that it doesn’t rub up like Sand cement…but I’m still happy with the finish. But for me the pros far outweigh the cons with this one. I really enjoyed using it. Give it a try Bricky58 - there’s no big aggregates in this. Very smooth to use and extremely fine which provides a very smooth finish. I recommend it pal 👍

In fairness - it does look more sticky. Does it ghost though if applied as a one coat too thin ? Could you apply over a 4 : 1 S + C scratch coat to save a bit of cost I wonder? Weber do a dash system too - that may be more forgiving in terms of dash coverage.. It's a shame they don't do OCR in different colours like the monocouche system.
@joeblogs1169
@joeblogs1169 Жыл бұрын
I think if you can afford the cost it’s better to use two coats of the same material due to expansion. Plus especially in my region the sand is heavily contaminated with china clay. I have tried to wash it out myself but you can’t get it clean. Cement will not bind with clay and so the mortar is compromised . With the bag renders you don’t have this issue. Plus you can get more finished work done in a day , which may be beneficial to the flow of work, so other trades can complete their tasks.
@PlasteringForBeginners
@PlasteringForBeginners Жыл бұрын
I agree with Joe. Looking in the forums it seems that most of the issues come when it’s used alongside standard sand cement render. I think it’s best to use it as it is - I’m getting better results and I actually feel it’s faster.

Going to be using this on breeze block. Should I be using a mesh? If so Should i be putting the mesh onto a scratch coat? EDIT - just spoke to Weber - they said that for breezeblock i should use WeberRendAid first - trowel it on at 3mm thickness - then gently press in the pink mesh (lapping at 100mm) and use a stipple roller on the rendaid, then let it set. Then use OCR as normal ontop of that

Blimey! ..... could have done with that back in the day 🙂 ...... It looks like it floats just like the 'Carlite Browning' used to (Pre Hardwall) ..... If it does, then it WILL be a pleasure to use (Not such a fan of Hardwall - I must say) 😞

Hi blain quick question can this be applied to a sand and cement scratch coat?
@PlasteringForBeginners
@PlasteringForBeginners Жыл бұрын
People do it but I think it’s probably best to use it for both coats. Looking at the forums and it seems that a lot of issues arise when people use it on a sand cement scratch. But I’m not fully sure. Maybe someone testing could say because I haven’t personally tried it. Sorry 👍

Home owner question here, what's the consideration with solid walls? My render is cracked and I'd like to replace with a modern solution, but I wonder if these new systems allow the bricks to breath enough? Although I'm sure the paint used by previous owners doesn't allow for much breathing!
@PlasteringForBeginners
@PlasteringForBeginners Жыл бұрын
It depends on the render systems available. This particular product isn’t ideal because it doesn’t allow any breathability but there’s lots of products out there that do. Just not this one unfortunately. Sorry 😢

It does allow the building to breath Resists the penetration of external water and has excellent weather resistance and durability, whilst allowing the structure to breathe

What a coincidence... I used it today (my first time rendering); unfortunately my lack of experience got the better of me and I applied a single coat of it too thick to a wall with no suction, consequently it started to fall off of the wall. Rather than persist I scraped it all off (I used some of it to quickly repoint my patio so not a total loss) before it set up, a £35 lesson and some experience. It's only annoying as I said to my wife beforehand that I thought I should apply it in two coats but I didn't listen to my internal monologue and went ahead anyway. I'm going to give it another crack (I have some bags left and I don't write off a product because of my lack of experience) at a later date, 2 coats this time just as Blaine shows us in this excellent video that came at the right time to reinforce my decision to press forward. Thanks Blaine!
