THE BACHCHANS 2004
Five years had passed since my first rendezvous with Amit-ji. He had come through a lot, health, finance and career problems. But now he was back, bigger than ever before...a legend.
No one can claim to 'know' Amitabh. So I had to meet him with the persons he is closest to in the world -- his family.
They arrived through the studio gates in a stately convoy of luxury make-up vans and Mercedes SL 500s. The women dressed in brocades and rubies; the men in their classic designer suits and ties. It was the Bachchans, Amitabh, Jaya, Shweta and Abhishek, keeping their 'Rendezvous with Simi Garewal'.
I loved the camaraderie, the in-house jokes, the teasing, which only a family can get away with! I also sensed the unstated alliances. Amit-ji and Shweta were a team! Jaya-ji and Abhishek. And yet, they were a unit of one.
Without doubt, India has a continuing love-affair with Amitabh Bachchan. They've seen him in hundreds of films in hundreds of roles..but here they'll see him in his essence -- as the family man.

By far one of my favourite episodes. It had a poetic feel to it and this entire 3 video series was perhaps one of the best interviews I've seen. Simi was perhaps better than Oprah but I feel a major part of India wasn't ready for such in depth conversations in that era but I strongly feel that India will reach a point in the next decade when such style of interviews and shows will get the greatest amount of respect and viewership. The sleazy and cheap talk shows will soon be a thing of the past after the younger generation will hit a road block when they become over saturated with rubbish apps and when it dawns upon them that the real pinnacle of conversation or content was already here. It is only then that we will see quality content like this again.

well said! TIK TOK style trash and instagram nonsense reels hopefully will have an expiry date. Am so shocked at the assault on onese senses of the mindless trash that is churned out these days. Simi is like a gentle breeze - refined, elegant, understated,.. amazing to watch her evolved conversation skills

Well it depends my father told me i will never achive anything in life, that i did not have potential for my dreams, and i know in my heart he is wrong, sorry but not always they are right it depends who is talking, their love or their pride and in my father’s case his ego

I have watched nearly all the episodes of this show during lock down.. The only Indian talk show where these stars have come out and spoke their heart out.. Because the way Simmi ji conducts interviews and makes her guests so comfortable.. We want this show back!!! We want Simmi ji to come back with such a show again as most of the talk shows now a days are more of a timepass than something from which a lesson can be learnt!

Very emotional. I wonder how hard it must have felt for all four of them, to not cry during this interview. Such a well knit family. And the best part is, the foundation (Jaya Bachchan) is super strong and has ensured that the rest of them (including Amitabh) are well grounded. A lot of credit must go to her for the way this family has come up.

Credit for a happy family life must go to Amar Singh for he was intelligent to guide Bachchan family for Coming out of financial Crisis for he had right Contact .Amitabh Bachchan was Incapable to have such a vision .Shara Shree Subroto Roy for giving them 60 Crore for Jaya Badhuri and Amitabh Campaigning in U.P towns and City's to fill the Coffers of Sahara Investment and Deposit Account

I watched the three parts of this interview and it was beautiful. The family shows so much grace and humility. The last few minutes when he describes how he feels about his wife and his children is so heartfelt and lovingly respectful. Thank you for sharing.

I watched the 3 parts too . Loved each . Simi you do such a fabulous job of interviewing , don’t know if anyone else could do it as well as you . You are sensitive and intelligent , so graceful and careful with your words . I loved to see how in the 3 rd video there was so much maturity and gratitude in Amitabh Bachman’s statements . I have just started watching this show, I had always heard about it but guess was too young to pay attention and understand the maturity of the show. Hands down one of the best interviews ever. The way Simiji interviews, her elegance, her words and most important the emotions in her eyes, as if so curious to know the human being sitting right next to her. Hats off Mam. I may be not be the first to say this, that we would really like a comeback. This rendezvous is so pure, so human. It is glamorous ofcourse but not showing off. Interviews like these are classic examples for the future interviewers.

I believe Karan Johar is over rated.. And above it, has no depth in interviews. This is real emotion, no fake questions or expressions.. Yet simmiji is classy and great has interview skills. Hatsoff..

This is the warmest, most human interview i've seen in ages. Hard to believe it's more than a decade ago, and I'm so delighted Amit-ji is still going strong in his seventies now. Real legend.

What a show and what great quality! That tribute from Simi to Mr. Bachchan stole the show. Anyone would get easily intimidated by Mr. Bachchan's serious composure but Simi is quite clearly the boss here - the perfect anchor. I must admit people need to learn the art of conversation and the art of interviewing from Simi. It wouldn't be a misnomer if I called Simi the Hrishikesh Mukherjee of chat shows.

Enjoyed all 3 parts. Could have asked more from Jaya ji .. she was also a successful actress.. she seemed more alone and her husband(Amit ji) does not seem to reciprocate the same to her. The sessions were very deep n touching. this family stay bound to each other and holding each other strongly .All credits to Jaya ji. Wonderful Job Simi ji.👏🏻👏🏻

Amitabh ji , Jya ji and their children are blessing to the Indian film industry and so proud of you for doing this. I saw Amitab ji 15 years ago in Mumbai airport but afraid to say hello! I live in houston since 1974. I was born in 1948 and saw many films of their family but this interview brought me tears , as this is what Bharat is!,

I've been watching Randezvous for years now, love the show, and miss those kinds of shows today. The story on Bachchan family is of historical significance, considering their importance in India, and nobody has done it in such way like Simi Garewal. For me, it gave me an insight into that part of India, which I so love and appreciate.

wow this was by far the only full episode I watched and the best, I was born in 1990 and my parents would tell me how great simi garewal was, I was 8 then. I am 28 now. Thank you Madam for you love. What a beautiful set of episodes with the Bachchan family. Thank you Simi, there must be so many other different interviews, but having them all together capturing the chemistry and sharing the space all together is just so breathtakingly beautiful and educating in so many ways. The emotions are real, the self effacing so natural and you weave it all so well with such grace. Would love to have one now with the further extended family where you could rewind to this one and the one in 1998.Best

Simply wonderful. Once you start watching this, you just got to see the whole thing....there's no stopping in between....watching the emotions of each one as the other speaks is so fascinating and emotional.....Fantastic interview Ms. Simi.....just brilliant!

Never thought I wld watch something like this. But saw all 3 parts. Each person in this family is so intense & their answers honest - even if it meant contradicting others. Aishwarya comes across as so diplomatic, so conscious of her public image, at times so shallow - wonder how she fits into this family.

I don't know about acting etc but Abhishek and shweta are very well brought up for sure.Look at how they carry themselves.Even today, Abhishek and shweta behave properly always.No nonsense people. And simi Ji You please come back with your interviews.This is me, 4th or 5th time watching your rendezvous.Such sensitivity!
