Description: "René Magritte was born in Belgium in 1898. After attending art school in Brussels, he worked in commercial advertising to support himself while he experimented with his painting. In the mid 1920s he began to paint in the surrealist style and became known for his witty and thought-provoking images and his use of simple graphics and everyday objects, giving new meanings to familiar things. With a popularity that increased over time, Magritte was able to pursue his art full-time and was celebrated in several international exhibitions. He experimented with numerous styles and forms during his life and was a primary influence on the pop art movement. He died in 1967."

What an extraordinary channel and the work that went into this, an invaluable educational service that you provide, and such a great way to learn about painters I didn't even know about or for example find paintings that I didn't know existed from my favorites. Né à Lessines en 1898, René Magritte a étudié à l'Académie des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles. D'abord influencé par le cubisme, il s'impose rapidement comme la figure de proue du courant surréaliste, jouant sur le décalage entre les objets et leur représentation. Parmi ses œuvres phares, l'artiste décorera notamment d'une immense fresque le casino de Knokke-le-Zoute, entre 1951 et 1953. A sa mort, en 1967, ses plus de 1000 toiles, gouaches et collages seront légués par son épouse à diverses collections publiques belges

I'm more a Dali man, my favourite Magritte paintings are The Menaced Assassin (26.44) and one with unrelated objects receding into the distance (9.33), don't know title. Both poetic and strange but more realistic than most.

Those are called grelots, which are essentially jingle bells. Maybe it has something to do with the horses Magritte grew up around.
