Wild camping trip backpacking in the Cairngorms of Scotland.
This was a very, very long walk which most people do with the aid of a mountain bike due to the long distance involved. However I thought it would make for some good Cape Wrath Training.
Day 1: 8.25 miles
Day 2 : 18.65 miles Altitude Gain: 3115ft Altitude Loss: 3615ft

If I remember the Munro behind the Geldie ruin is Carn Ealar. We camped at the ruin the night before in June. Had a fire with wood from the peat bog.after bagging the Munro. There was a nice breeze keeping down the midges. In the morning tho the wind had dropped and in was low cloud cover and very humid. We sufferred the worst midge attack I've ever experienced. The light in the tents disappeared as black clouds of midges blanketed the surfaces of the tents. we ran in the direction of the northern hills. I've never seen midges like it in my life. Horrific.

Thanks for watching mate. Most likely will take the Gopro as the maths for the number of batteries for the Sony is wild. Likely need 2off 20000mah power packs adding around 0.7kg to kit weight. Doesn;t sound much but it is when doing silly long days over the moutains, Atb

Wouldn't go without trekking poles. I am getting on abit now and makes a huge difference more so on the deccents. Also good for added stability coming down steep sections. Few times in the past my feet have slipped yet the trekking poles have helped prevent me having a tumble. As for water collection, as long as it goes in the bottle I don't care. Atb

My advice Ray, take the Sony with you. It might add extra weight, but you can only regret not taking it as you might miss potential shots / clips along the way. In terms of video quality, you've been aiming to complete the CWT for a long time, so for looking back sake, it'd be great to capture it to the best of your equipments abilities. As an example, my camera kit adds 6kg to my overall trail weight - that includes a 80-200 telephoto lens which is 1.2kg in itself. Any time I have left that lens at home, I have missed fantastic shots & I've regretted it. Take that as you will. :)

I have the Sony A7iii and the A6400. Wouldn't use the ZV1 as the lens for me is not ideal for vlogging, its not showerproof and the battery life is horrific, worse than my A6400. Good one. One of the solutions I have found to stave off the auld divorce is to take the wife on walks. However, she won't go wild camping (sigh). Instead I have to organise French trails using proper campsites. If all goes to plan we will be doing part of the GR34. I have persuaded her to do the WHW next year as well. Mine was cancelled last year due to Rona. Must say I winced seeing that footage from the CWT again. Your poor feet.
