@@_de_reve i don't think it's confirmed about his ethnicity, since he only went to school that teaches korean language and cultures. It's possible due to Jilin being the border of china-korea so the culture and language is mixed. He too never addressed this issue so we shouldn't assume, what is clear is that he's chinese by citizenship. If we're talking about ethnicity well both Korean and Chinese literally came from the same ancestry, or what is known as east asian.

Well, c-fans indeed assume that Renjun is chaoxianzu (korean ethnicity people in china) because while there's many korean descendant in jilin (his hometown), the percentage of korean people there aren't that high compared to han people (wikipedia said it's 4% vs 91%), so renjun attended korean ethnicity school was some sort of telling his actual ethnicity because why non-korean descendant attend korean ethnicity school? It's still just assumption because Renjun himself never confirmed it but if c-fans who knows their country's situation the best assuming renjun is chaoxianzu, then it's most likely right 😅

Lol it's not that common for non-chaoxianzu to attend Korean ethnicity schools, but there are exceptions. Back when I was in 1st grade there was 1 non-chaoxianzu student in my class iirc(I'm Chinese Korean and I've lived in China for 6-7 years so I went to a Korean ethnicity school for 1st grade). Some parents realize that if they enroll their kid into a Korean ethnicity school then they'll learn both Korean and Chinese, making them bilingual. Plus learning Korean and Chinese simultaneously, you also start learning English in 5-6th grade, which means you're basically learning 3 languages in school.

Ethnically, he IS korean lol. To put it simply, Renjun is like Johnny and Mark, a korean descendant that lives overseas. But unlike Johnny and Mark, Renjun (and seems like his entire family) did more contact with their korean ancestry (he went to korean ethnic school in china back then) so he's more familiar about korean language and culture then resulted him appears more korean than Johnny and Mark.

@fatmamedemi Even though I suspect he is Chaoxianzu, it's best to not jump to the conclusion since Renjun himself hasn't confirmed that yet, and it's best for him to never confirm it as there's stigma around Chaoxianzu in South Korea and that'll harm his reputation. And yes, most Chinese Koreans do enjoy South Korean songs, dramas and variety shows.

I wouldn't spread information like this since Renjun never said so himself, just because he's from Jilin, the province where most of Chaoxian-zu population lives, it doesn't automatically make him one as well. Also, even if he is /hypothetically/ a Chaoxian-zu, how ethically Korean he is would still be up to debate because of how ethnic minority labelling works in China. Yes, Jilin is a special province in the sense that a lot of its citizens are more immersed in Korean culture and media, so it makes sense that he was exposed to a lot of the things that he did as a child. But learning Korean was still a conscious choice he made when he was younger (he studied it because he made a bet with his friends lmao), it didn't just come to him because he lived in Jilin.
