How does the Renogy Flex 100 Watt panel compared to other 100 panels? Lets take a look at it after a brief overview of the panel. Then I compare it to 2 other renogy panels and one Xtar folding panel. This test was done during the summer months where the sun is mostly overhead.

I also purchased Renogys other flexible panel but after this video was made.

Renogy foldable and rigid panels and they usually perform very well and have great customer service. I got two of them mounted right to my van and have been for seven and a half years now

Nice test. I think it would be a better test if that Xtar had been sitting out there in the heat the whole time as well since the hotter they get the less they put out.

Right. That's why I mentioned it. I'll test it again against the renogy black division and the flex.

The flexible solar panels are good not just for being flexible or flat but they are much lighter without the frame and glass great for mobility bike boat in a car window anything

I'd like to know if I can mix and match? Do different branded panels work if you connect them together? I tested my Renogy 100 Watt panel out on a beautiful hot day, got around 60watts until the sky changed to a powdery milky (not blue) and got zero watts from my panel. Also do they work in Winter?
@AskIveSolar
@AskIveSolar 2 жыл бұрын
You, in theory, can mix and match panels with similar voltages and amps. But if they are too far off then the lowest will drag down the higher one. Pairing a 100 w a 50 didn't make sense. But there are videos on it.

I get about 60 watts from my renogy 100 watt panel as well, disappointing but ya get what you pay for. So....if space is not a concern you can get 2 renogy panels for less than the price of 1 XTar

@Mangomesh Жыл бұрын
@@drd1924 I bought a firefly branded 200 Watt panel a few weeks ago, it was on discount so I picked one up. I'm only getting 140 watts out of it, but I think the cheaper brands are better. I did buy another renogy 100 watt panel but the specs are different to one I bought over a year ago?

@@AskIveSolar I bought another renogy 100 watt panel but the specs on the back are different to one I bought over a year ago, do you think it is safe to connect them both together? I just don't want to damage my battery, both are Renogy 100 watt panels.
@AskIveSolar
@AskIveSolar Жыл бұрын
As long as the specs are close enough. Shouldn't matter. But you gotta be careful with series as it can damage most small power stations. And 140 doesn't shock me. Not everyone has ideal solar conditions

are portable/folding solar panels effectively the same as flexible panels, meaning lower life span and easily heats up etc. and does ETFE overcome flexible panel issues?
@AskIveSolar
@AskIveSolar Жыл бұрын
I'd gather that they are but that's not a data based answer. They typically have the same coating. ETFE and PET on older / cheaper panels.

@@AskIveSolar Does ETFE resolve the heat, short life abd sever decline in output over time as compared to glass/rigid panels?
@AskIveSolar
@AskIveSolar Жыл бұрын
It's only better than PET but erfe will break down over time as well. As I understand it from people who are smarter than I. Let me ask Jasonoid his thoughts.

How long are your cables on average? Do you have a lot of loss?
@AskIveSolar
@AskIveSolar 2 жыл бұрын
I have two 50ft 10awg. A couple 20ft joints. Probably like 10 and then I have a couple 10 to 15 that are mostly 12awg. But I defaulted to 10awg before I understood wire gauge better. Now I can go with a shorter 12 awg and it's a lot more manageable. On these power stations....I don't really fret much about loss. Just get 10awg for longer cables around 50 and you should be fine. But I may test loss in a future video.
@JustlifeTomSandraYordi
@JustlifeTomSandraYordi 2 жыл бұрын
@@AskIveSolar Thanks for your response, definitely worth testing. I myself have not been working on all this for long and have bought cables of 6mm thick and 20 meters long. I do not have much loss due to the length of the cable and what I lose I more than compensate because the panel is now in the sun all day long. Have a nice day
@AskIveSolar
@AskIveSolar 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's like even if you have some loss. It's what a volt or two. Times the amps. Most panels are 5 to 10 amps. Soooo what. 5 to 20 watts per hour. At the end of the day, to get that panel in the sun. It's worth the loss.

ive what happens if i hook up a 400 watt panel to my river ? will i fry my river ?
@AskIveSolar
@AskIveSolar 2 жыл бұрын
The hope is that it will protect itself but that voltage is too much and will probably fry it. If you look at the voltage on that panel. It's too high for it.

Minute Man Prep on youtube made a video about a cheap ground mount that you can use for flex panels. They Are from Eco-worthy on Amazon, the 41-inch one. Check out his Channel he's got some pretty good stuff on there, I purchased an Eco-worthy Ground Mount for one of my Newpowa 360-watt panels recently mounted horizontally, and I love it. It would work great with your renogy 320 watt
