Billy is restoring a chateau and this is a complete rebuild from bare bones. What you are doing is practical especially with the water issues presented there.

Ed it's Mike from Chateau Sallandrouze and I am a retired contractor from the United States and we call the metal bottom and top either track, plate, or rail. And the vertical metal are just called studs. Love you guys.

I also used metal frameworks for my renovation in Southern France and if you use the right tools to cut the rods instead of metal scissors it becomes a piece of cake. We didn't use plasterboard, but Fermacell - it's more solid, water and fire-resistant - but, of course, more heavy and expensive. I appreciate that you looked at my comments on the grounding cut-off device and adjusted accordingly. Inside the house it has not to be on sight, you can hide it behind the plasterboard (with an access trap) or inside your fuse box.

Billy us 'restoring' places before metal bracing was available, so of course uses wood. In the Convent the more recent updates used the metal bracing, but Billy said he wanted to bring the building back to how it was originally. As an American, I didn't know metal bracing was available, so you have educated me. Looks much easier to use than wood.

The metal base looks good! Metal works tighter than wooden beams. You will also immediately get rid of any woodworm problem in the future...

The reason for the earth wire connection now makes sense, I was baffled by it before.👍 The metal system for your interior walls for me, makes it much easier to do than using wood. I think it's also makes for a neat and precise job and prevents the chance of ending up with rot or beetle in the future.👍

Your in a potential flood area so metal studding is correct for reduced corrections.

I found this interesting. I, for one, have not seen this metal work for drywall. At this stage it really is taking on form. Way to go!

I would have used a foam barrier between the cement and metal. Also, you should use Lexel or silicon the hole where your ground rod is. Once you close up the wall you never know what’s going to bubble through that hole into that room. Also helps prevent those nice little creepy crawlers finding a new home.

When you put two studs together it’s amazing what they can get done 😝🍻

A barrier between the steel bottom plate and concrete would have been a good idea. Concrete is actually not waterproof. It will wick moisture over time and the steel will rust. Much faster than wood would rot as well. There are benefits to both steel and wood wall construction. Here in North America we generally use wood stud construction in homes and steel stud construction is used in commercial applications. I question your use of double studs at every location, especially in the middle of a sheet. Save money on cost of steel studs. It’s the combination of steel stud and drywall (plaster board) that gives steel walls their strength. Also if you split the difference of the stud where two sheets of drywall meet you save a steel stud there as well. But hey, who am I to say. Things are done differently in different countries and I understand that. Love the work you guys are doing.

Hi Ed, in Canada we call them stud walls. We attach the plaster board also called gyproc( pronounced jiprock) We use wood or metal.

You guys are cracking on fabulously. The green waterproof plasterboard is a good idea in case of any flooding. ❤

Some contractors use nothing but wooden studs to build a house or appointment and some of them.Use wooden studs yes for the outside worlds and the metal studs for the inside walls

Hola Anna, Edd y Louis, que gran constructor es Edd, la estructura que hizo quedo completamente en escuadra y alineada a pesar de la forma de la pared. Y que bien quedo diseñada la escalera que lleva al piso de arriba ya que al subir o bajar los escalones acompaña a la pisada sin ninguna dificultad. Ademas que bien quedo el reboque de las paredes exteriores de color blanco y rosa. Muy buena idea de poner un montacarga ya que es muy util. The metal frames are easier to construct less cutting and cost I would assume than lumber and then there is noise cancelling systems I hear that can be used. Every builder has their own preference and easier to deconstruct. I am just surprised you are starting walls when your electricals haven't been fitted to a box yet. We know you know what you are doing as you are a professional builder I think this place will be finished on target and whomever is lucky enough to rent it will appreciate all the details and safety you have put into this home. When will Anna start to do the decor design? Love the new Bordeau Life thumbnail with writing and wee wine bottle very nice.

Metal studs are not used in residential construction in Canada - they are considered thermal bridges ... and when temperatures can reach -30C in the winter, you really don't want your heat drawn outside. Metal studs are used in commercial structures as they are considered more fire-proof.

There is no "right" or "wrong!" as a general rule, it always depends on where you put the frame. The davantage of metal is, that it ads less weight to a construction, the advantage of wood is, that it is easier to mount heavier things to the walls. But in the end, if you feel more comfortable with using the metal frame, go for it, after all it is your house

Ed I have used the metal before, it`s a little different in the states, verticals 16 inches on center and we screw the top and bottom in so they don`t move, yours seem to just be standing in place, no screws on the studs? Metal is probably the better choice for you application, I do agree, it sure will look good once it`s all dry walled in, no more dungeon, be well.

I believe it's just called framework. We use metal for large buildings with lots of walls. For houses depending on where it's built, wood is used.

Ed, how will you protect the pipes running behind the plasterboard? I keep envisioning folks hammering a nail in the wall, or drilling a pilot hole.....

Called stud and track.we normally brace the stud from the wall if not fitting a rear board or double boarding for rigidity

4:30 I've never seen wood used for drywall structure in France, I think it's more an american thing? Every construction site I've seen in France, every house I lived in, used metal studs in drywall. 25:00 Ah-ha :) The barrette de connexion de terre doesn't have to be in view, it just needs to be accessible. It's fine at the bottom of your Gaine Technique de Logement, which will have a cover that can be opened. You're going to have your electrical panel on that wall anyway, I'm sure you'll figure out a way to make everything look neat. One thing I forgot to comment on previous videos : so the drywall is going in, I see the 230V electrical wiring... where's your low voltage wiring? Network (phone/internet/fiber) and TV. I believe you're required to have a network socket in each room... and a TV socket next to it is nice to have, a lot of people still watch TV "the old fashioned way" with the antenna connexion (not sure if it's required anymore - the way the norme sees it, the network wiring could be used for TV if you use Grade 3 network cable... I prefer to still install TV coax next to the network wiring)... If you can skip the consuel I guess you can ignore that (and hope everyone uses Wi-Fi for everything? I'm a network engineer I like to have everything wired :D), but if you must have a consuel visit, then check an NFC15-100 guide to see what's the minimum that's required as far as network/TV goes. Also might be a good idea to prepare a conduite/gaîne from the facade near the connexion boxes/point de branchement (the three boxes on your facade next to your neighbor on rue Laville-Fatin, there are three because one is for phone, one for cable, one for fiber... probably only the one for fiber will be used anyway) to where ever you want the fiber socket to be installed in the future (NFC15-100 says through the gaine technique de logement, then from there using the gaînes for low voltage wiring, to any room... or the fiber socket can also be installed in the GTL), otherwise when your tenants get internet installed the sub-sub-sub-contractor will drill the facade and install the cable the way he wants, and he may do a poor job at it.
