It was 99% the mc, who was literally hateable, chizuru was actually a fkcn logical person, she was doing her field of work so she can't be like ruka obviously, was also likeable af because she went through all the troubles to help this miserable guy for his granny when she had no obligation too as well so that elevates her above ruka as a character( I like how we talk about characters in ani like tha have their own free will 💀💀) , but there's an argument that the mc is so bad because people like him actually exist

After Kazuya had a bit of development at the middle of the manga (until Reiji stopped developing to milk the series 100 last chapters) and fight the world to help Chizuru achieve his lifedream of being the protagonist of a film just at the "spoilerGrandmother thing", and he had confessed so obviusly 99% of anime tsunderes would have understood it. Chizuru still in denial proceeds to ghost him for 3 months with no response. IF there is a hateable character after all the developments is Chizuru, not Kazuya.

My favourite thing about Ruka is that the author REALLY tries to make you think she's annoying and obsessive and shit Forgetting the fact that kuzuya is actually at fault here Ruka clearly doesn't know how relationships actually work, she's never felt anything about anyone of course she'd obsess And kuzuya while clearly annoyed adamantly fuckin refuses to talk it out with her, and properly explain he needs space. God the writing in rent a girlfriend is so ass

Kazuya is not annoyed by her. It's more of he doesn't want to have any dirt with his bro's girl. Although they resolved it by the end of the first season, Kazuya found himself more obsessed with the perfect girl Chizuru and have no time to deal with Ruka with a bit of his feelings stuck with Mami.

Bro if you read the manga you can just read the first 2 pages and the last 2 pages and you'd get all the plot of every chapter, the rest of the pages are kazuya monologuing and chizuru doing all the talking.

I will never watch this anime but I enjoyed the video a lot, I'm pretty sure the editing has more production value than the entire Season 2 Opening (i mean, they use the same boring dance 2 times but with different clothing!!!). Yes, I strongly agree with you. The production quality is very high for a trash show, it keeps you wanting to see more and more as unhealthy foods do. The only thing stopping this from getting to the A tier is its pacing and plot, and no one expects great plot in the trash.

I think there is confusion that comes from the fact that this is actually an entertaining story of the trash genre, and not actually a trash story of the romance genre. The trash part is the characters themselves, mainly Kazuya, not so much the anime itself, which does a decent job at showcasing said characters in a single season so far. That is, at least from what I recall of my experience watching this anime. I mean, I remember Kazuya was at the very least self aware. All that being said, I don't know if I want to watch season 2 though, the entire cast is pretty annoying if you think about it lol...
