I want a full blown video about renting points…best way to do it, how to get what’s considered a good deal, does selecting one of the confirmed reservations give you a better deal than creating your own reservation, best property to pick when planning to have resort pool days, what are the problems people have faced? We want to know all the things that you eluded to when you said “we’ll talk about that another time” 😊

Great video! We've been renting points for awhile and fortunately we've never had a problem. The one piece of advice I have is it's easier to drop someone off a reservation then to add one. We were a party of 3 and wanted to add 1 more person and it was a hassle. It worked out in the end so if anyone is on the fence put them on the contract and if they don't end up going it's no biggie.

Me and my wife rent points all the time we love it! But yes it’s different and not for everyone but if you like to stay at the deluxe resorts from time to time it’s great. Would love to be a dvc member but I’m just not there yet lol.

Great discussion on this topic, as we are planning a trip for March 25. We have really been wanting to try renting points but have been hesitant to because of the cancelation policy, it can be a bit risky for sure. Would really love to hear more into this topic, thank you for covering this !

Next month I am going to WDW and staying at a DVC property on a bounce-back offer (it is the offer you get after completing a Disney vacation). I kept seeing these DVC point resellers. So, I went to a few of the ones who are supposed to be reputable. I found that my vacation for 10 days in a one-bedroom villa with the Disney dining plan for 2 was cheaper (by a little over $1000) than if I rented DVC points to cover the villa. I don't have to figure in park tickets since I'm an annual pass holder, and if I added the dining plan to those rented DVC points, that would make the difference even greater. So, from my research, I'll just stick to my travel planner and bounce-back offers. 😀

NICE! Yeah, renting DVC Points isn't always all it's cracked up to be. I know I said I was going to talk more about it and haven't gotten to it yet. . . it's on my list of things to do this week. FIngers crossed all plans go according to plan. 🤞 Don't get me wrong, it can be the right choice for some, but there are a lot of other options that offer better prices and more flexibility.

As a DVC member (and maybe my anticapitalist naivete is showing), I have issues with having to compete for reservations against resellers. The investment in dues alone is considerable. To not have a system of prioritization over brokered visitors (no offense to those that use the reseller system (the game, not the player)) can be frustrating. For example, years ago kept trying to book at Bay Lake Tower after it had just opened. Tried and tried to no avail... Through the reservation system, on calls with cast members (hopin' for some pixie dust), no joy. An acquaintance booked their first trip with the grand kiddos at, you guessed it, Bay Lake Tower. They had a magical time which was awesome! That said, my zen brain says if it's meant to be it will be. Btw, the rest of the Bay Lake story... Got on a call and managed to get a room at Poly. Pure magic!

Rest assured. . . . you're not alone here! In fact, I have some VERY strong feelings about this particular topic and [to keep it as simply as I can] the lack of prioritization for actual DVC Members actually using their memberships. Glad it worked out for you though!

The lack of flexibility is definitely a huge downside for us. We're a family with two small children; when we went in 2022, we did pay through the nose for a Deluxe 1 bedroom Villa through Disney, because we knew that if we couldn't make the vacation work (COVID, emergency, canceled flights) we'd at least have the benefit of Disney's cancellation policies. I'll be honest though, I'm in a couple of social media groups for DVC point rentals and the industry seems massive - like, problematically massive, and not just because of the rental companies. I absolutely see benefits to members being able to rent out their points if needed, but it almost seems like there are a lot of people who have 1000+ points specifically to earn money on them by renting them out regularly. This worries me as a prospective member, looking at purchasing and booking for myself in the future. I don't know exactly how difficult it is now, but I can absolutely see Disney cracking down on this very hard in the future if it gets bad.

It is and the questionable practices alongside Members doing what you're suggesting [becoming members with the intention of profiting off renting points] is dancing on a grey area in the fine print that might bite some of these Members in the ass in the future. Frankly, I think this is going to be the next major crackdown Disney saddles itself to as soon as they can figure out how to do it legally. . . As a longtime DVC Member myself, I think that having the ability to rent out my points if absolutely necessary [in the event that the other 3 or 4 options didn't work out on a particular year] is nice. A little peace of mind, if you will. However, there are so many people that use it as a cash cow rather than a fail-safe and I don't think that's fair. This is something I see first hand more often than I ought to as someone with a very popular home resort. I can't book a room or the room I want when I want, but it's available through a DVC Rental Company as a "confirmed reservation". . . not cool. I've got a long of very strong feelings about this, which I'm sure we'll get into some other time. What I will say is this though, DVC has made adjustments over the years to try and mitigate certain problems. Personally, I think that the resale restrictions is part of the solution to problems that got out of hand in the past. I also think it might contribute to a solution to this problem too over time, but these things take years so we'll just have to wait and see how it goes.

Thank you, for always being so informative. We will be staying at the Poly for the first time, by renting points. I will say the whole renting process took longer then I expected, I was to exited to get that reservation in MDE. lol
