I used to listen to this riding an awesome 1981 Suzuki 1100 (very fast) . I played the cassette with a Sony Walkman and had earbuds in my helmet. No booze or drugs, in great physical shape, really good memories. It still sounds good.

I heard this song as a teen in 1980 or 81. At that time I dismissed it as Top 40 pop girly-man garbage! Seriously hated it. I was all about Rush, Pink Floyd, Scorpions, and Van Halen. I just came here to see if I still hated it. I must have mellowed because I can tolerate it now! LOL

Ahhhhh to be part of the 80’s when REO, Styx and Journey were around. I remember roller skating and asking a girl to “couples skate” while this song was playing. Would do anything to be young again and feel the wind in my hair and sun in my face without a care in the world

Always has been my moms favorite group. When we would go on road trips, REO would always be there for our listening pleasure. This song always brings back fond memories of our trips. We lost my mom suddenly in April so I love every time I hear REO!

So very sorry for your loss, I hope your doing well and very glad to hear just how much your mom enjoyed such a great band and that you have happy memories of her listening to these guys, that's great!!!!! I too lost someone special this past May, my husband of 23 years, whom of which was a fan of REO and then he stopped listening to them for a while, right before he passed away, he started getting back into their music because he said it made him feel better when doing his chemo treatments.Thank You to whomever the person was that thought up KZfaq, you gave us back the sounds of our youths 🙂

I envy you as someone born in the 2000s. I would have loved to have lived through the 70s & 80s. It sounded like such a cool era. The styles, ways people dressed, record stores! and how everything was less advanced (in a good way though!)

love that the acoustic guitar is going on through the whole song. That when you listen closely to the solo and chorus you can just hear the faint sound of that guitar trying its best to stay with the intensity of everything.

The song was likely written on Gary's acoustic guitar and presented to the band on it. Not an add on, but the essential soul of the song. A great example of adding acoustic to a song to make it a masterpiece is Go your own Way by Fleetwood Mac. Lindsey had the idea and it lifted the entire thing to the stratosphere.

I come from the younger generation I wasn't around to see them in their prime in the 80s but Kevin Cronin can still nail those high vocals.... Undoubtedly one of the best bands to ever take the stage with their arena performances , I love them.

I was 10 years old when this came up on the radio. The euphoria over it was instant. Not only I still listen to it with only headphones without any outside interruptions, I’m learning the violin and I AM NOT dying without playing this one on my fiddle. The guitar solo, the lyrics, everything. (Note: I saw them live in 1988 and they sang it exactly as on the original vinyl record.). Now, I’m gonna go ahead and listen to it again. Thank you REO.

I like the last "then I don't want you around" is sing higher. This song was created at a time when music was like poetry and told a story instead of just repeated hooks and mind numbing beats. Plus the guitar solo is a master peace.
