Thanks for watching @wilbertshirley : ) Smart to switch to brands that do not require a monthly fee. Good luck with the setup. I recommend buying as large a microSD card as you can (256 GB) so you have as much video playback history if you plan to set it to continuous 24/7 recording instead of motion based recordings.

Wifi Reolink is $70 today for Prime Day in July. They also have a newer white one with 3:4 head to toe and package detection for $80 but has a $10 coupon making it $70 as well.

@@DemCrumblies I ordered one. The only problem is my door bell is on the wall to the right of my door instead of on the same wall as my door. That means instead of the camera pointing out to the street it points 90 degrees to the left. It is also 2.5 feet from the door and 53 inches from the ground, which is 6 inches higher than the recommend height. I tried to cancel the order but couldn't because it is close to being shipped. Even with the 15 degree corner plate I don't think it will work.

@@MrWhaatay Only thing I can think of is to buy a 3rd party wedge with a wider angle like this: www.ebay.ca/itm/225642508870 or you can try something like the Botslab Video Doorbell 2 Pro which has a crazy wide 180º field of view that will catch a lot even with a 15º wedge. Otherwise you'd have to look at a battery powered video doorbell.

Hi DCT, I am a UK viewer of this video, which is very informative and helpful. As an 84 year old man, and not very technical, I wonder idf you would be kind enough to try and answer some questions? This look a good choice for me! However, my front door is 30 feet from a busy road, so would this pick up every vehicle which passed by, and is there a practical way to alter the detection area? I have seen videos with people passing cables through a drilled hole. But where does it go? Mt router is approx 6-7 feet from the front door, but with a wall between. The set up works fine for everything else. I don't understand how everything is hooked up. If you can advise, I would be very grateful, as I have been researching video doorbells for 2 years, and yet to take the plunge. Many thanks Terry Davis

Hi Terry, if you set the video doorbell to record continuously, it will record 24 hours a day, until it needs to overwrite old videos. In this way, it will capture all passing cars. If you set it to event or motion recording only (no 24/7 continuous recording), then there is a chance it may miss very fast moving cars in front of your home. The detection area has lots of settings since you can set both sensitivity and object size to trigger motion detection. However, this is something that you will only truly know once you set it up. For example, it's difficult to set my doorbell up for optimal detection because I have a large tree in front of my home which sometimes triggers the motion sensor when the leaves move. If I try to block out the leaves, I also have to block out part of the road since it is also in the same visual area or plane. My model of this doorbell is the WiFi version, which means I only have to supply power to it by cable. The internet connection can be supplied via WiFi. If your router is 6 to 7 feet from your front door, even with a wall, that should be plenty strong of a signal for the doorbell to work from your WiFi. In Canada where I am, I installed the doorbell where my existing old doorbell ringer was and using the same cabling provided enough power. However, if you do not have a current doorbell ringer with existing wiring to use for this doorbell, Reolink also supplies a very long power cable that can be plugged into your power outlet in the wall like you would plug in a phone charger. If you end up having to use the extension power cable and power plug option, you will have to drill through your doorway/doorframe to run the wire from the doorbell, into the house, then plug it into a wall. Ideally, it's best to use the existing wiring from your current doorbell button. Let me know if you have any more questions and thanks for watching from the UK 🙂

Sure, I'll do my best to help if you have any other questions. Btw, there are also some battery powered options, which require no hard wiring, but these options generally do not offer 24/7 continuous recording, only motion based or event based recordings, and in those cases, they may miss fast moving cars.@@terrydavis1488

DC, you made a mistake. The wedge has a dedicated front and back. The smooth back goes towards the wall. Otherwise, the bottom screw hits the camera bracket and the camera won't set flush on the wedge.

Great in-depth video. But I’m a little confused on your many false or at I would hope are false recordings. Does that mean it can’t filter a car out based on detection settings or is that just how like it getting 600 recordings is a crazy amount.
@DemCrumblies
@DemCrumblies 4 ай бұрын
Hey there, the area I live in has soooo many cars and people passing by that I easily get hundreds of detections and recordings per day with all brands I review (eufy, Reolink, AOSU, Tapo, etc.) I also set my sensitivity settings to fairly sensitive so I can get enough footage required for my reviews, but for your regular use, you can adjust the object detection size so you can limit recordings. Once you lower the sensitivity also to reduce the detection radius or range, you will be able to have a more manageable amount of events to filter through.

@@DemCrumblies wow love the fast response. That’s great to know. I have a ring on my from door bell and I’m getting a reo link for my back door. I will say my ring pro 2 never gives me false alerts and I have a busy roadway in front of my place. But I don’t feel like paying more for my back door bell camera. Hopefully The reolink is up to the task. Thanks for the help deciding.
@DemCrumblies
@DemCrumblies 4 ай бұрын
@@12345howarth Yep you should be good with the Reolink for the back door, especially if you dial back the sensitivity, I think I had mine set to 41 and the max sensitivity is 50, so I recommend you leave it at the default, see how many recordings you get, then decide if you need to dial it back after before you adjust object detection size settings. Btw, I actually just reviewed the Ring Battery Doorbell Pro, but I'm likely going to return it because it doesn't have any local storage and I'm not big into playing for monthly plans, but I did notice it produced less detections and recordings when I had the sensitivity set to medium.

If you check this part, you can only set the Alarm schedule and leave the timer schedule unchecked: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l5aoobyI08-9ink.htmlsi=Sp_0l8TpQF5ycbe8&t=653 Btw, you can also enable both and you should still be able to filter specific movements when you want to.

I replaced my Ring 2 video DB with the Reolink wifi DB and it is not compatible. Reolink will not work on my house DB wiring, but the Ring DB did why not the Reolink? The problem is the house chimes would chime constantly while connected to house wiring. Works ok if I don't use the wires. I need the wires to supply power to the camera or it won't work. I will probably have to return for a refund and find another brand or another new Ring DB.

Will this video camera record number plates clearly?
@DemCrumblies
@DemCrumblies 5 ай бұрын
Hmm kind of hard to say because it will depend on how far away the car is from the doorbell. You can probably make out license plates from 10 to 15 feet away I think, but if it's at night, the license plate may reflect too much light and show up as glare or blown out to make out at night. Also, the car's plate would have to face the rear or front of the car. Where I have mine mounted, it only sees the sides of cars as they pass by, so I can never make out plates.
@Naturelover2

It seems it is illegal to tell how much storage you get on an SD card. I don't want to spend money on a 256GB card to record 5 years of video if a 32GB card will record a week. Naturally it will depend on how much activity is at your door but no one is able to give even an estimate.
