Sometimes, when you plugged in an external hard drive, USB flash drive, SD card or some other storage devices into your computer runs Windows 10/8/7/XP/Vista or some other previous versions, Windows prompts error message: "Drive H:\ is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."
The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable message can cause a lot of problems on your PC can prevent you from accessing certain files. However, there’s a way to fix this problem, and in this tutorial we’re going to show you what causes this error and how you can fix it on your PC.
Quite a few people have lost important data from their PCs due to hard drive errors. A common error on the Windows OS is the one that many will identify with ‘The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable‘ popup message.
Checking disk errors and repairing corrupted file systems can fix "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable" error caused by bad sectors, virus infection or file system corruption.
Issues addressed in this tutorial:

@@MDTechVideos I read the same solution on a site that made a little box where I could copy the code but it didn't work. No from this video I see that there has to be a space between the partition and the "f" thanks a lot

Even three years later after posting this vid, it still works and you saved me! I have an external hard drive from deployment that has a lot of shows and movies on it, I was bored and decided to load it up and see what was on it and it told me it was corrupted/unreadable. I was about to give up but with your video I was able to save it and I cannot thank you enough my friend!!

So uh my internet networks aren’t showing up in the bottom right, and when I go to setting>network I don’t see any WiFi networks that my computer can connect to. I also can’t type in the search bar in the bottom left. Could this all be a result if I had a corrupt drive?

What a life saver today! I went to Best Buy and purchased a new Seagate 2 TB External Hard Drive fearing the worst. I used your video instructions, and it's not needed; however, I just as well keep it for additional back-up purposes. Thanks so much for enabling the repair of the corrupted external disk!

This only works when the main MFT Table is not corrupted and there is still acces , otherwise chkdsk do not work and the error "unable to determine volume version and state. chkdsk aborted" , this is not a easy chkdsk fix as you claim, in the video you show a healfy harddrive.

Will this fix the mfr file record thing? I just can't access my HDD anymore but can explore the content using minitool partition wizard, I'm kinda scared about doing that scan when the system is loading because I get no output of what's it doing

2:09 Mine says "access denied as you do not have sufficient privileges or the disc may be locked by another process. you have to invoke this utility running in elevated mode and make sure the disc is unlocked." What should I do???

Hey So im having trouble with my c drive. When i do the scan that u showed on the cmd or the one through the filedirectory -> properties route it tells me to restart and it will start scanning and repaíring. When i then restart the pc, it says scanning and repairing for like 3 seconds untill it boots up again, without actually resolving the issue. Please help me :D

My Problem is that my hard drive is corrupted I think and the whole computer freezes even during restart as soon as I have the Hard drive inserted and as soon as I plug it out it works fine so I can't really do stuff while it's plugged in so I can't Format and I can't type and also I can't plug it in and I can't Format the hard drive when it's not plugged in so I can't Format I can't do the commander prompt I can't do anything can someone help pls

when it restarts it says press any key to skip disk checking. after i dont press anything it says repairing disc C: and then it just stops and restarts normally

Thanks man. It worked. It was weird that my hard drive stopped working all of a sudden because i hadnt dropped it anywhere. And I'm also pretty sure i ejected it the last time i used it. I even tried connecting it to other PC's and still no luck.

Random power outage, hard drive corrupted. Google searches yield nothing. buy recovery software, it's taking 12 years, randomly find this video. fixes the drive in seconds. I feel like some files were deleted, though I can't be sure and I don't remember what was on the drive. but the files I know that I needed, Are fine. Why isn't this fix plastered everywhere when you type "corrupted harddrive" I'll never know. Thank you sir.

+MDTechVideos Is there any way to do a chkdsk if you can't get a PC to boot up from that disk? I just had an ssd m2 hard drive that stopped booting up even when trying to reinstall Windows 10 on it. It was an inexpensive ssd so I just decided to replace it with a better ssd drive. That worked fine and I'm up and running again but now I'm wondering if I can somehow retrieve files from that old corrupted drive??

Chkdsk caused my internal HDD to have a RAW partition(no, it wasn't caused by one of your videos, you're the only youtuber whose advice I actually follow regarding pc maintenance)... I don't have a second pc... any way I can fix this without losing all my data?

for me it says: Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Chkdsk may run if this volume is dismounted first. ALL OPENED HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID. Would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (Y/N) What do i do?

that worked like a charm dude, thank you so much :) my external Toshiba drive had become corrupted and unreadable.....followed what you did on this video (as i am not that good with Tech stuff) it was easy to do, and very quick to fix my drive :) so, people need to try this fix (as it is very easy to do) and not download them recovery programs that would only do the same as what you showed us to do on here. only thing is, this is a free fix :) and them downloads want $80 to do the same thing. so nice on there for showing us less tech savvy people what to do, thank you :)

I should also note my device is not being read through the sata cable but it does show that it’s on device D which is what i used when running the prompt .

@@matrixmoney2550 It was an External Seagate drive. I couldn't access because the message said it was corrupted. It had a large number of video, picture files etc. I followed the instructions and I recovered all my files. I don't know the cause except to say it worked one day and the next day it didn't. I never leave my computer on after I use it. Hope it helps.
