Omg you saved me a heart attack! I thought it was coming from the transmission! That's the exact noise my 07 TSX is making and I noticed the reservoir was empty. I added some fluid and it went away. I will be replacing the O-ring this weekend ! Thank you Jim !

Ty for making this. I was prepared to pay a mechanic to fix this issue and all it took was a trip to honda parts and 10 minutes of my day. Thanks for being thorough on how to go easy on removing and re installing the bolt. I can see where someone could mess that up.

Thank you so much! My 2005 Honda Accord has been making this noise when it's cool outdiors for a couple years.More recently it's tough to turn the steering wheel before it gets warm . I bought this used it was not very pretty. Little things keep falling apart on it but the engine is amazing . The only cost for four brand new tires and a new battery. I live in a mountainous area. a It zooms up thousand feet without losing power. I couldn't afford for it to be an expensive problem . When the button on my shifter broke I found your videos. I appreciate you!

BUT,...your holding up the part # saved me...because the guy at Honda parts desk had NO IDEA what I needed...however, I had him turn the computer screen towards me and examine the P.S. parts legend and BOOM!..found it! Anyways....just to say THANK YOU! Cost of O-ring: $4.00 ... You saved me several 100's of $$. Peace and blessings to you!

Hey Jim, I have a 2007 Honda Element with 247K miles...great car for sure. I had the exact buzzing noise from my power steering pump and the reservoir had a lot of foam. Mechanic said the power steering pump needed replacement...well, I watched your video and replaced that o-ring ($3 from Honda). Wow!! Solved the problem in less than 5 minutes, no more buzzing and the Element drives perfect. You saved me a LOT of money! Oh, if anyone is getting a P2646 code with the VSA, !, and check engine lights with the rpm not able to go over 2,800 rpm, it's probably the VTEC solenoid needs replacement. Warning!! Do NOT buy an aftermarket solenoid, buy a new OEM Honda solenoid ($162) from the dealership. I tried to save money and bought a Dorman solenoid ($100) from Auto Zone and another off brand from Amazon ($45)...both worked for about 20 miles before the failed. The OEM part solved the problem!! Thank again Jim for your professional videos!! U Da Man!!!

Thanks so much! This fixed it exactly. Bought a $10 o-ring kit from the local parts store and had it fixed in minutes. It did take a little bit of driving to purge the air and get the noise to go away. Two days later after only a few miles of local driving, the noise is completely gone. I had this noise for a while, and even then, it apparently didn't damage the pump thankfully. If I do have to replace the pump down the road, the kit came with two o-rings - the 2nd one I'll be able to use the high pressure side.

Hi Jim, I am a poor student from Austin, Texas, having a 2004 Honda Accord. I followed your steps and finally solved the issue that the power steer was hard to turn during the cold days when the vehicle was just started, and once the temperature increased to the normal level, it was easy to turn. Less than 3 bucks to purchase the o-ring and a screwdriver to get the job done in 20 minutes. This problem has been there for more 4 years since I owned the vehicle. The former owner told me to pull in some antifreeze. One dealer told me to change the power steering pump, which costs about $500. Another dealer told me to flush the power steering fluid as well as repair the power steering pump for the low pressure, which costs about $400. I understand people want to make money for their work, but I don't think it is the way. I appreciate your time and efforts to knowledge guys like me, who is without any experience of vehicle repair and maintenance. Also, I decide to do the regular maintenance and repair work by myself first rather than asking for help from the greedy dealers. Wish you a Merry Christmas.

Thanks again Jim. I just did this repair on my 09 Honda Accord EXL. It was moaning and groaning with each turn of the wheel. I look under the hood and power steering fluid was all over the place. I guess the fluid bubbles up and out the reservoir. So I grab a set of o rings for the top and inlet side. But it’s thanks for getting me in the right direction.

Thanks! I did this repair on an 07 odyssey and it took care of the noise. The dealership parts guy called the o ring, RDA. I only replaced the suction side o ring, the orange one. I didn't expect the old o ring to be black, and it appeared slightly thinner in the thickness of the ring. There was more fluid leaked than I expected would be! I had a bunch of paper towels underneath it, so caught most of it. That bolt was really difficult to get at. I had just done a reservoir replacement and this might have been easier to do along with that. If only i had known it was needing to be done too.

I actually changed both O-rings (top and bottom) since I was already there and also changed out Power Steering Reservoir Tank/Cap and fluid. I was just about to pull the trigger on a brand new power steering pump, and I just happened to stumble on this. I believe this is the problem on my 02 CRV. Thanks Jim.

@@jimthecarguy Yessir, that was the problem. Just bought 2 o rings for $6 shipped (saving one for a backup, why not? they're cheap), and it fixed the whine right up. The only difference is that mine sits a little lower in the engine bay, and I spilled a little bit more power steering fluid than I hoped to. But the repair still didn't take long, and saved me $500. Thanks Jim.

Jim,,,,THANK YOU so much, for saving me over 600 dollars, from the f&^$ dealer, my pump had just started to make noise on my 06 Pilot 3.5 V6 and the dealer claim it was leaking and needed to be replace they quoted me 680.00 to replace, went to a different dealer to get the o-ring for under 3.00 bucks and it did the magic....

Hi Jim...great video..I followed it to the tee! Easy to replace! Is the brake fluid in the reservoir suppose to be swirling around inside?

Awesome! Solved my problem, I have so many issues with my crv lately and so far everything has been a gasket or o-ring. Guess it could be worse

Great video. I had this same problem, only noticed it around 35F or lower. The other day it was 24 out and it was GROANING. A few bucks later and 15 minutes and it's nice and quiet now. I assume the air will work itself out of the system?
