I'm a 60 year old grandma and not mechanically inclined. My truck is 22 years old and the back doors wouldn't open. I replaced 4 of those cable ends without removing the cables because I couldn't get the tork screws out underneath the doors. If I can do it anybody can. Great video. Thanks.

I know this video is a few years old, but thanks for making it. Very helpful. Another YT video said that the piece that's different in the replacement kit goes on the upper latch.

This is about the fifth video I've watched to try to learn how to fix MY truck. I learned enough from the others to get the door skins off and the mechanisms exposed. I couldn't see how to detach the cables on those vids. I came close to making a lot of extra work for myself, and I'm real glad I decided to watch this one. You showed a lot more detail than the others, and I think I can now find the cables and make the repair. Thanks so much for making this one. I'm pretty sure I can make good things happen from this point forward. It's now 1322, and I'm heading back out to continue the effort. I'll come back and let you know when the job is complete. 1403 and the only cable I could find is replaced and working. I would have been done earlier, but I had a couple of interruptions. My truck has a solid bent wire rod from the latch to the handles. Maybe the very early’97 trucks were built different from later production models. I may get ambitious and contact Ford, but I probably won’t. Thanks again!

I am glad I saw yours, I just replaced one door and was curious on a print on the top latch and you did it. I got to go back and bend the metal to insert the head of the new metal new parts in the latch. SUPER, Thank you so much!

Thanks for the instruction. Both my doors were jammed. One door only had the aluminum sleeve slip off the metal holder. The other door I replaced both old plastic sleeves with aluminum sleeves. Doors work great. I busted one of the plastic clips that holds on the top panel though.

This is a very helpful video, thanks for posting, I ordered the replacement parts and there IS a different sized piece for the top part of the door, it fits in so you don't have to pry the latch open, just wanted to let you and the viewers know about that.....again.....nice job.

Replacement door latch cable sleeve ends by Dorman part # 926-111. Check to make sure that number covers for the year of your truck. Mine is 2000 F350 and that number covers higher years but not sure how far beyound 2000. Also, I took the latches and cables out of doors as a unit. Makes replacement easier. Be aware the latch mounting screws may be covered by the door weather stripping. Some have repoted they had to spread the new sleeve slightly for fit. Make sure to re-crimp for tight fit.

No dude. The top one should be different. Has a slot that you can slide in and twist instead of prying the latch open.

OK I know this video is old but u can pull the bottom cable up and the top cable down and the door will open so u can work on it I just replaced all mine 2 months ago and it works just fine ur not going to hurt any part this

Thanks man Good video to help get my 04 Heritage back! better than the other one with those two guys. I was a little concerned with that top latch with the pressed on fitting. But screwdriver allowed it to pry apart enough and then used my channel locks to squeeze back together. Also was a warm day so that inner plastic liner pulled off easily and still sticky. I got my clips on amazon and just had to squeeze them with pliers a little bit so they would lock into the channel. Top latch is harder to work on than bottom, that was piece of cake. Hoping my driver side holds out till next spring. I only had one broken piece on passenger door but replaced them all.

YOu placed the wrong clip to that top portion , it should have been the one that looks like a key hole on top of the clip.

After watching other videos, I agree this is a clearer version with good explanation. However, I wonder why hasn't Ford done something about this? I bought my 2007 F150 truck brand new and hundreds of years later resent having to do this. This is no little task. So if anyone hears about a retired teacher dying while replacing a latch cause she got stuck in her truck. That will be me.

Sure! $5 bucks per door and 3 hours of frustration! But I called the dealer and they were going to charge me over $100 for the parts! So I suppose I have to suffer and do it myself.

What's really aggravating about this demonstration is that all the time you took with the top latch, and the middle handle mechanism, but when it came to the BOTTOM latch, you skipped over how to get that part out. That is what I really needed to know.
