Much like the Sharp RT-20 I fixed earlier, this RT-10 has a failed capstan tire. This time I try to show you how to fix it. Really not the worst repair.

Not a terrible repair at all. You did well. 😊 * According to some Sharp service manual parts lists, the capstan tyre is named as a "shaft sleeve". You can cut a piece of 2mm x 5mm silicon rubber tubing to 5 mm length and it will work the same way, unless you are able to order the correct parts for your model (the inner diameter/hole is 2 mm; the outer diameter of the tubing must be no less than 5 mm otherwise it won't make contact with the idler wheel). The capstan in your deck is similar to the type used in the more popular portable GF-555 and GF-666 models. The big plus is it all works properly after the repairs and you don't have any vital parts or screws left over. 😇

I enjoyed the video. I made this same repair on a couple of rt-10s two years ago. I wish you had made this video before then, would have made my job a lot easier. I learned by just diving in.

Thanks. I had done the RT-20 by just "figuring it out" and thought I could find an RT-10 and do it for a video.

i finally did and repaired mine mostly using your video. the deck plays perfectly fine. thanks again it is really helpfull. it was a fiddly task though. especially getting that mechanism out of there. i somehow lost the spring to the door opening mechanism, found it on the circuit board, picked it up with plyers and dropped it on the floor in a mindless moment. spent a good amount of time crawling on the floor looking for that spring until i just took a spare spring out of a broken mechanism. works just as fine but super annoying lol

Nice job! I keep a strong magnet around to fish for springs that decide to escape. ;)

thanks for the video! now i feel safe to start repairing my rt-10 :) by the way i think the RT-10 has a cooler look compared to the RT-20... more 'analog' style with less computerised parts. i wish it had classic analog VU-Meters though. Since you have both: is there a difference in sound quality between them? or is the difference just about the display of the RT-20?

To my ear, they are the same... but they are also 40+ years old! I like the RT-20 for the goofiness of the "computer controlled display"... but the RT-10 does look cleaner.

Question u mentioned motor speed adjustment where exactly is that located I have I similar model but it's a fisher when it records it just a little to fast and off .

@@rotatorwrecker-180 usually right on the back of the motor. Often there is only one opening at the motor. Thats the spot where you can insert a screw driver and adjust the speed carefully

@@rotatorwrecker-180 Look at 02:36 in the video.. you can see a hole in the back of the motor... insert a small flat-head screwdriver to adjust the speed. It does not take much!

Hi. I have the same deck being repaired with the same problems (already resolved). However, one problem stand still. This is a dropped out spring that helps opening the cassette door (part number 101-G in service manual). I can't figure out how it stays in place. Can you please help me with a photo or just an explanation of where I should put it?
