I have seen these fuse lamps for sale from various supply houses recently. Can’t remember if it was from Digi Key or Mouser. I do wonder how many more years we will be able to use these legacy receivers. The change has already started in the EU where several northern countries have shut down not only AM stations but FM as well and have switched to unencrypted DAB SYSTEMS. I do foresee in the future that stations will go to subscription services and encrypt their signals but be ready to still receive commercials over the air for what you are paying for service to eliminate commercials. Several LARGE cable suppliers which are over charging for their services are now also interrupting shows with commercials. A very moronic move on their part.

AFAIR, these were called 'festoon lamps', at least in the UK. Often used in cars but also turned up in items like this. Look for festoon bulbs or lamps online and you may get lucky. In the US they may be known as 'automotive' or 'Lucas' bulbs. Usually 12 volt.

fuse lamps, I didn't notice they were used outside the automotive world ... I guess why not right lol. About 10 years ago I designed some LED replacements that look like the ones you put in for cars, they were a flop cause we couldnt produce them cheap enough here in the states ... but the point is the only thing that makes a LED replacement 8 volt vs 6 volt is that tiny resistor so instead of lets say 25ma flowing though (each) LED your only getting maybe 17. They are not going to get much brighter fiddling with them without a more robust LED and current limiting in place

If you wanted to, with a slight modification you could upgrade the old dial lamps to LED's which last longer, and most likely replaced all the electrolytic caps if required ... and it might work great, but would no longer be in 1970's original condition. 🤔 Nice unit nonetheless and sounds good for the price! 😇

This is a dropped out spring that helps opening the cassette door (part number 101-G in service manual). I can't figure out how it stays in place. Can you please help me with a photo or just an explanation of where I should put it?

Honestly I buy belts in bulk from Amazon - often cheaper than sourcing the exact belt from a reseller. You’ll need either a 1mm or 2mm square belt, so just buy a grab bag of belts of that type and thickness.

i finally did and repaired mine mostly using your video. the deck plays perfectly fine. thanks again it is really helpfull. it was a fiddly task though. especially getting that mechanism out of there. i somehow lost the spring to the door opening mechanism, found it on the circuit board, picked it up with plyers and dropped it on the floor in a mindless moment. spent a good amount of time crawling on the floor looking for that spring until i just took a spare spring out of a broken mechanism. works just as fine but super annoying lol

@RoughJustice2k18Ай бұрын
Nice tape transport mechanism replacement - sometimes repairing the original is not possible and if it is, it won't be very reliable long-term. Another little radio saved from going to landfill and hopefully added to your collecton.😇 I did say in a previous video that the Realistic SCR-40 looks similar to the Sharp QT-50, and they both probably use the same tape deck assembly, but the QT-50 does not have a plastic handle (it comes with an optional shoulder strap). The side handle on the Realistic is more common with Twin-Cam Sharp decks from 1986. 2 thumbs up. 👍👍

Many years ago, I had a neighbor who let me borrow her RT-120 model, and found out it records properly on Normal, CrO2, and Metal type tapes. The radio records very well, the internal microphones sound good but more sensitive to lower frequency range, but the line and microphone inputs hardly picked up a signal (either defective or wired incorrectly at the factory). Finding these new on eBay is rare to nonexistent, and those that are used are parts only or have had lots of use. This is a very nice unit with a common style that reminds me of grilling out steak. Yeah, the speaker grilles. Get it, grills?

There are a few variations of this Toshiba model series; some have the motor at the back of the deck mechanism, some have it at the front. What I like about these is their basic design, and ease of access to fix a problem should it arise. Reasonable quality for a budget boombox when everything works properly.
@techmaesterАй бұрын
Even though there is no selector switch for bias/tape type, most of these RT models can record to Normal, Chrome, and Metal tapes. (Perhaps a strong recording made on a tape deck would leave a faint incomplete erasure on Metal erased over in this Toshiba.) The unit has a white DC Bias erasure head, usually are black in tape decks. As you would expect, these RT models are AC Bias for good recording quality.

@@EricMarschner I own a couple of Toshibas like this (not the same model though) and they both use a 9V motor in the tape deck. One of them needed the motor replaced because during cassette operation it would suddenly squeal and run very slow. Not fixable, so it was replaced with a good used one I'd pulled from a junked Sharp GF-A1. Worked fine after that. The other just needed a new belt (the original had melted into a nasty gooey mess). The models I have - RT-6015, RT-6016. Made in Japan and easy to service.
