I found the video to be very helpful. Of course working on a snow blower that is 6 years old, and in a cold garage added a couple of twists, but I was still able to fix my snow blower because of what I learned on this video. Thank you very much.

Not mentioned is an easy performance mod: Adding rubber impeller extensions, which would substantially increase the performance of the machine with just a little extra work.

1:25 it's when your sb will start leaking gas. Be sure to support the rear half before disconnecting it. 2:10 good luck with stuck rusted pins 4:13 do not overtighten these bolts, notice how they actually don't torque them that hard, these bolts are tiny and made of soft metal, maybe replace them with stronger metal bolts, should be 5/16 gross thread. While there, inspect the shaft bearing at 1:45 , mine was bad after 25 hours of use, $30 chinese Peer bearing (buy the Nice/Skf brand instead). And be sure to inspect the friction disc, it uses soft rubber and wears much faster than on old sb

Helpful video and would be great if my 15 year old blower was as nice as the unit shown on the video (obviously a brand new machine). Mine had several issues to work thru as I proceeded. The main one was the pulley was seized on the shaft. Finally got it loosened with a propane torch and brute force. Put some anti seize lubricant on it when reassembling to maybe avoid this problem if I ever have to remove it again!

My Ariens barely throws snow out the chute. I need to do this disassembly to find the problem. Thanks.

just used my ariens the other day , after 5 minute the impeller stopped turning , there is no noise and it spins on the shaft , could the pins be broken and how can i order new one , thank you , great vid

Great video. I just used it to change out my impeller, and the only change I had to make was related to pulling the pully. For others: If the pulley wont come off with the single center bolt, you can remove the three adjacent bolts and remove the pulley that way. That then gives you access to the center machined fitting and I needed to use a small gear puller to get mine free from the shaft.

Have you or anyone removed the assembly on a 921032 model? under the pulley there is a pulley hub secured to the steel pipe running into the impeller. Not sure how it's secured, if at all, but I can't figure out how to removed it and worried to try and force it off. Would appreciate any tips. thanks

Looks like the roll pins that hold the impeller on sheered off. Are they made to brake like sheer pins for the augers?

I need help please. I am trying to replace the impeller on a Husqvarna ST 230P snow blower. I watched your videos on the Cub Cadet and the Ariens but can't find a Husqvarna video. I have the two halves separated and need to remove the old, bent impeller. How do I remove the nut from the auger drive pulley??? It is stuck on so tight it won't budge. I hate to use a mini-sledge on the 15/16th wrench for fear of breaking something. Is it reverse threads by chance or is there something I'm missing here? Please help. Thank you. Mark

is the diameter determined from the blade diameter or the hub diameter. I'm attempting to modify my craftsman 28 in impeller, with the new sho ariens 12 inch. i also need the shaft diameter to fit the impeller hub. or maybe modify it. i have some other mods to make but the impeller was the most important. it appears the factory impeller with that rubber blade kit isn't enough. what i see is the volume of snow being forced into the impeller is more than the impeller is capable of throwing. a basically underrated impeller. its either this or i remove the old impeller and fabricate new blades with the design of the ariens. which looks to be more cupped and not flat. any suggestions or inventive ideas. i also know they put a baffle bar in the top auger housing to stop the snow from getting blown back out the front sides. supposedly the impeller also creates a vortex wind causing air to blow snow forward. i thought the auger housing opening should have been designed to be further forward than the augers. but then again i may be wrong. just looking to be able to blow enough snow to keep up with the supply going in. 1st gear actually moves too fast in snow around 6 inches or more which takes forever. i have double checked auger blade directions and pins. and made every adjustment i know of. obviously going the wrong direction. basically, the supply going in is greater than the impeller can keep up with. i measured auger housing impeller opening to be 12 inches. yet can't find any impeller specs online. set aside ariens being a bunch of no call back jerkoffs. end result i fabricate the dam thing. even replace blades with better designed. when i looked at their sho impeller it made perfect sense how they designed them to scoop the snow. old impellers are just flat stock bent upwards slightly with no side plates. i find sometimes others have run into the same problem. then again there are some non-mechanical idiots that act like they're know it all's. and know less than jack schit. sometimes you get lucky and find a winner. being a tech all my life its hard to find someone on the same level as myself. mechanically of course. got any ideas at problem solving this one? lol. if not I'm promoting myself to a snowblower Dr Frankenstein and create a snowblower zombie killer.

What's the usual life expectancy for an impeller, with normal wear and tear and not chopping and throwing other debris out of it?

You should never beat on steel with a claw hammer I have a piece of a claw hammer embedded in my arm for life to prove it. and beating on a piece of steel with a claw hammer is also a good way to lose an eye.

I have just started experiencing my ariens like this one not able to throw the snow as powerfully. Is there a belt tightening fix? I don't think the impeller is bent. Other thoughts would be appreciated. Thx ...about to get whacked again in Boston's North Shore
