Glad you were able to fix a problem with your aunt's vintage Dell laptop. It's cool that you and your family have lots of fun with retro technology.

Nice to see one of these, have had about 7 or 8, including the Inspiron variations, myself. Solid laptops that I know like the back of my hand now.

My first laptop was a inspiron. I just wish it didn't have a Celeron processor inside. Celeron inside slowwww outside.

I had one of these! It was the first machine I installed Windows 98 on. With the exception of the proprietary IDE adapter it was a joy to work with and really shows how Dell rocked the industry with solid computers and manufacturer to consumer marketing

I did a similar restauration of my PCx-J 750 GT last month. It now rocks 384 MB of RAM, and a 32 GB IDE SSD from Transcend. It runs AntiX Linux. Works really well.

The CPx is a great laptop and I'm still using and enjoying my 500mhz one I wouldn't mind getting another 650mhz one for sure

The dell line of laptops still remains my favorite besides modern day MacBooks

its funny, although i am 15 (going on 16) i do just enjoy collecting retro tech from the 90's and 2000's. something about it just, makes it better than tech today.

Fujistu drives (what were in some of the original MacBooks) were the quietist, however I'd install a CompactFlash card nowadays.

Super video ! By the way, at 16min40, do you know that instead of re-typing cd windows/options/cabs after the last "md" command, you can simply type CD then hit the F3 key and it will copy the remaining characters of the last command. So it will automatically at the full path... very useful! :)

I had a similar issue with an Inspiron 8200, but it wasn't the hard drive at fault because i tried many hard drives in it. Which was unfortunate because i paid $82 for that laptop.

I think I mentioned this before, but if you run Windows 98 Setup with the /ie switch, it will skip the part where it tries to create a boot floppy.
