These Marcrist DDM3 and DDM2 core drill where quite popular at a time.
But I see them less and less now since marcrist stopped selling them.
They where a good enough machine for the job, but I always found repairing them very expensive.
This one in not all that expensive a repair for a change, the second hand housing has helped keep the costs down. But if you need the seals replaced in yours, your best bet js to remove them, read the size and order them from a specialist seal supplier.

An excellent video of a repair of something out of the ordinary. I particularly liked your use of the split outer race to fit the new main bearing. Keep the videos coming Dean

Tremendous wisdom, especially how to not to press on the inner race of that large bearing. Thank you,. Looking forward to more.

I hope you have a child who wants to follow in your footsteps because when you retired there will be nobody with your encyclopedic knowledge to take your place. The thought of all those tools with a part broken or in need of a bit of rubber going into landfill upsets me a tad. Thank you for the videos and I am pleased you showed up on my feed for some reason. 👍

On Evolution mitresaw, stand and vaccum video he made a bench with, he had a little helper from time to time and possibly load of that were cut out too for private reason we all understand and approve.

During my 3.5-year training as an industrial mechanic, I learnt that you always have to oil the contact surfaces of ball bearings when inserting them. Nobody ever does this on KZfaq.

I don't want to sound like I'm preaching, but I hope you wear barrier cream. If not thin disposable gloves would be a good idea with all the oil and kerosene you come into contact with. A friend of mine got bladder cancer and the oncologist told him it was caused by absorption of oils and chemicals through his skin. Keep up the good work. I'm a maintenance fitter and thoughly enjoy your work.

To avoid rust during storage, what about removing the water hose, run the drill to dry and then applying some drops of oil?

I remember opening up my first Weka, was expecting grease but oh boy I was wrong: a workdesk full of oil. The cleaning probably took me longer then the repair.

Hi mate. Great vid as always. The oracle of all things power tools! Ive got a DDM3 that occasionally spins if you keep changing the speed selector but 9/10 you can just hear the motor turning and thats it. I assumed id need a new head as thats all marcrist seemed to list for the gearbox but i couldnt find one anywhere so gave up on it. Do you reckon its worth cracking open or will i likely need parts i wont be able to find? Cheers

hey dean thanks for all the great videos! I have learnt a lot and repaired quite a few things. Is there any chance on doing a video of a spindle replacement on makita circular saws as I can't find any information ANYWHERE online on doing this. seems to be a press fit bearing and some other kind of clip but I'm not sure :(

we use the same hand drill and its made by weka and its german machine. very reliable and it is well abused :) and i believe that even husqvarna makes nearly identical machine :)

Yea the weka looks like it may be the original. I would guess the rest are Chinese copies. Even Vevor has one for same identical to the marcrist for 200 euro with a big core bit also.

Glad I watched this video as I had been looking at 2nd hand Marcrist DDM3 as I don't want to spend hundreds & hundreds on a new one as don't do enough cores anymore to justify it. I had a Makita core drill years ago which was cheap but absolute garbage the clutch just kicks in constantly making it torture to use. I had an ELU core drill which was the absolute dogs bollocks until someone else decided they also liked it so stole mine :( Would a used Eibenstock be a decent tool or are they like the Marcrist also? Really enjoyed this video, made a pleasant change from Dewalt & Bosch lol
