Had to either peplace or repair a hydrolic pump on an old mower of mine. I decided to be cheap and replace the bad parts.

Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower kzfaq.infoUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.

your "wobble plate" is called a swash plate and the "metal" on the face end of the barrel is the bearing plate which has the valve plate seated on it. Thank you for showing us a closed loop pump system. The shaft seal you suspected for water entrainment was over the gear pump that acts as a surge pump to makeup for internal leakage/ pressure drops. Also, the spring you warned us may pop should hold the internal check valve poppet. Thanks for the tutorial!!!

I just rebuilt both on mine as well. The internals had the same wear as yours with just over 900 hours on them. Works like new again. Cheers!

Thank you for doing this. I've been looking at quite a few Hydro-Gear tutorials and some of your observations are new and provide good insight. Yours is also the first to deal with separate pump/motor configuration mowers. I think I'm going to look at buying something w/belts directly driving integrated units bolted to the wheels, 4 component configs seem to be asking for more frequent maint work on the owner's part.

Great video ! Just did my 2002 Toro 62" pump rebuild. Almost the same setup.. Hydro Gear pump. My seal was leaking at the end of the shaft. 👍

Thanks for the video. With the help of your video I tackled my Hustler Super Mini Z. The wheel drive was shot so I ordered a new one. I tore down that side pump to check for metal contamination and wear. Luckily the metal stayed in the wheel drive and I cleaned the pump, hoses and cooling radiator. My Hustler dealer wanted $1015 plus tax just for over the counter price on the wheel drive. They also recommend that you change the pump on the side that you replace the wheel drive. I figure it would have been a good $2500 to replace the drive and pump including their labor. I found Buchallase.com had the Hustler part out of FL and it was $735 delivered to my door with no tax.

Aside from replacing worn components, cleanliness is imperative. The work bench needs to be covered with something to keep debris from contaminating parts that come into contact with it. The unit operates in a closed system, thus, abrasive debris can cycle endlessly through the pump and wheel motor, if it is small enough to flow through the filter. The system should be flushed, filter changed, and new hydro fluid added, before operating the unit. If this is not done, minute metal particles suspended in the old oil will create havoc with the "mating of new components" and severely shorten their life.

After you rebuild the pump and you reinstall it, do you have to worry about air in the lines? Is it as easy as rebuild and install?? Im doing this same thing tomorrow. Id like to get it right the first time.....Thank you for the video
@fitzsfixes6 жыл бұрын
Air wasn't an issue. I started up the machine on low idle. Then held the control on forward till the tires started moving. After 30sec or so it was back to normal. Also, while reinstalling, I filled the pump with oil. I didn't install it dry. And yes, it was easy to install. Hope this helps

I rebuilt the hydro pump and reinstalled and only builds pressure when motor is off and I turn by hand. When I turn motor on and pulley turns my pressure. Any idea what could be wrong?
@fitzsfixes2 жыл бұрын
Could there be air in the system? I guess I'm unclear on your question? When you turn the pump by hand, oil flows? But when you fire the engine up, it doesn't?
@Difficultmadeeasy2 жыл бұрын
@@fitzsfixes when I turn the wheel by hand it, seems to to flow oil into the hydro pump and eventually builds up resistance to a point that I can’t turn wheel by hand. As soon as I start it the resistance is gone and can spin wheel freely
@fitzsfixes2 жыл бұрын
Try disconnecting the hoses. Leave them hooked to the pump. Put the end of 1 hose in a bucket of clean oil. Spin the wheel and see if it pumps out the other hose. If it does, it should be fine. Might just be an air lock

"These guys here look good".... That's the pump plate. At least take a minute to measure the wear with a feeler gauge so you know what you got since thats #1 of the two major reasons for a weak drive. New pump plate assembly is $35. Takes a special flow meter from Hydro-Gear to test these after you're done. They're right at $1,000. It goes forward/backward doesn't mean it will go up a steep hill after it's heated up to operating temperature for 45 minutes
