Lathe hint: I've had many hundreds of hours experience on the wood lathe, .here's a good tip: I wired in a foot-pedal control into the on-off switch; it's a momentary switch, so the lathe is only on while the foot control is pressed, that allows you to use both hands, and have instant "off" while separating the part. .when it gets close to separating, you can trade the parting tool for a hacksaw, . You can take it all the way thru, or finish it by hand,, without risk hurting the piece. Just pulse the foot pedal, and put a cloth underneath the piece, for cushion. The fine teeth of the hacksaw blade makes a clean cut, without the high rpm. This is my first ships wheel, fortunately it needs no repair, other than cleaning the hub, and light sanding and oiling the wood.
