Little saftey tip for you when tramming the loader over any distance, always tram with bucket crowded back so if in the event of a hydraulic failure and the boom suddenly drops, it reduces the risk of the bucket digging into the ground and potentially sending you through the windscreen or another reason being if you have a power loss or break failure you can lower the bucket down onto the heel plates to slow and stop the machine safely.

Hey, I just thought I'd explain what that HEET is doing to the water in your diesel (for anyone who sees this and cares). HEET contains alcohols that act as what's called a co-solvent. So, diesel and alcohol are miscible (you can mix them in any concentration; they stay mixed and don't separate into layers) water and alcohol are also miscible, but water and diesel can only tolerate tiny amounts of each other before they separate into layers (like me and the inlaws). But if you add some alcohol to the diesel, you can get the water and the diesel to mix together long enough to go through the fuel filter and burn. The water just gets harmlessly released as steam out the tailpipe with the rest of the water that's formed from combustion. Chemistry!

Righto! : ) Isopropyl alcohol, aka "rubbing alcohol" - something tells me that isopropyl alcohol sold in bottles with "HEET" labels on them cost significantly more per fl oz than this very same stuff sold in drugstores as "rubbing alcohol". It is sometimes used as industrial solvent, which should be even cheaper.

Another tip for when faced with unexpected fuel problems. You can use a 4% mixture of "white" gas (a.k.a: modern unleaded) upto a maximum of 10%. Don't go wild, at 10% you can start D9 cats in -60F. Been there, done that (Barter Island, AK).

Hi Matt, As a rag-sailor, when I buy an old boat, the very first thing I do is put a sounding tube to the bottom of the fuel tank, and then using a small PAR hand pump, I take a sample to see what kind of dirt and how much water is down there waiting to clog filters or injector nozzles. You probably have the same problems with old diesel powered equipment. Does anyone put waterproof grease on the filler cap threads to keep all water (rain, or sea) from getting into the fuel tank? If your machine sat for 20 years, with a half full tank of fuel you'll have lots of condensed water caused by the fuel tank breather tube breathing in outside air as the temperatures change day / night / and with the seasons, that a sounding tube will quickly reveal. If that is the case, and you find dirt and water at the bottom of the fuel tank, pumping it out with the sounding tube is a big first step. At least you now know that you have clean fuel in your fuel tank. Cheers, Connie

To start heavy equipment in the winter, in cold climates, when the only thing you can plug into is a pine tree. Above -40° use a propane tiger torch, length of stove pipe with elbow up underneath oil pan, construction blanket over engine cover. Below -40° use diesel fired Herman Nelson heater, kerosene freezes at -47°, run elephant trunks to below oil pan, cover as previous. Best wishes all.

Several years ago I needed 7000# of crushed stone. I took my F250 and 10K rated utility trailer with 2x12 side boards in the stake pockets to the local Marten-Marietta quarry. A front end loader the size of my house met me at the stone pile. The bucket alone was almost as wide as my rig was long. That operator, had scales on his bucket ,and was able to place the exact amount in the center of my trailer, no issues.

Very common with quarries that sell to the public- I had one here that put almost exactly a tonne in the ute and 1800 in the trailer- he was able to fill both loads with under half a scoop- yet his scales and the weighbridge at the gate agreed to the kilogram...

Don’t know much about these machines but on our old buses there’s not just the two fuel filters to filter the fuel, there are several small ones in the fuel line and one bigger one on the fuel tank. That’s the first one in the whole fuel line, the two filters you changed are the last ones. Most of the time the one on the tank catches the roughest dirt, the others allong the line catch finer dirt. The smaller ones in the line have fine copper mesh in it and due to new diesel without sulfer, the copper will slowly dissolve and clog up the system. So what we do first, regardless new fuel or not, is clean the tank and replace the small inline filters or, if this is not possible on site, run the engine on a separate tank with new fuel and new filter pots.

It would clean up the rust and paint down to bare metal really quickly for you and from what I can see about them (not used one myself) the flash rust from it drying would come off with a wire brush on your grinder in a quick pass in preparation for painting. that fuel treatment heat is alcohol base and it mixes with water and makes easier to pass through pump and injector also makes the water flammable

In the strip mines of Alabama, sometimes we used charcoal briquettes in an old barbeque grill under the belly to heat things up. No flame just heat.

You might want to try an electric fuel pump between the tank and mechanical pump.

Awesome! My Clarke Michigan doesn't like the cold either, but it's moreso the transmission rather than the engine (Detroit). Doesn't like to engage well until it's warmer, so I don't run her much when it's cold out. Love to see the progress Matt! Keep em coming!

The orange color is just "branding" for them. You know that local company paints their stuff orange, so every time you see the bright orange equipment that is probably visible from space, you immediately know it's one of theirs.

Is the vent clogged for the fuel tank? Seemed like there was a long "woosh" sound like it was sucking a lot of air in when you removed the cap. That could be part of your problem.
@tydonreynolds8884

I'd say thats the issue. The tank had a vacume due to the cold temp. So it restricted the fuel flow to the pump

I'm an old diesel mechanic, clean and inspect the fuel tank and lines there is probably rust scale and other crap inside, look for old steel fuel lines that deteriorate inside. This will help you run much better. Alcohol absorbs water.
