They are indeed great engines! Best part in the trucking world is the cost of overhauling them is so much cheaper vs a caterpillar or Cummins. Caterpillar parts are just outrageously priced…

Funny, i was planning to message you and ask you how your Detroit series 60 starts in cold temps. Mine has fired up almost instantly at temps down to -15c without heating. I wasn't sure if that was normal or not. My diesel kabota generator is completely the opposite, firing on perhaps only 2 of the three even after 30 seconds of glow plug. I have to give it a spray of ether and it finally revs up to speed then. But after 10 seconds the my starter turns off engine. Perhaps I should let it run for 20 seconds before turning it off automatically. It's just not up to rps. Your video shows how you do it! Nathan

Follow you guys for a long time you don’t have a coolant heater or a engine heater for the bus? They usually come with a coolant diesel heater which I usually turn on before I turn on the bus on a cold day like that. I Also have a Detroit 60.
@LacroixCruiser2 жыл бұрын
Yes we have a block heater, and a Webasto, yesterday we had to move the bus quickly, so no time to pre-heat.

no it's either a fuel injection problem or an engine compression issue

@@LacroixCruiser as other people have said who actually run these engines as well they normally cold start much better than this,you will have problems finding reputeable fuel injection service workshops who can properly rebuild and calibrate DDec3 injectors,i am a qualified heavy diesel mechanic and will tell you theres something going on here,did you do compression test while injectors were out?
@LacroixCruiser2 жыл бұрын
We had them rebuilt by Quality Fuel Injection in California, he is very experienced and qualified. Yes compression test was done, less than 5 psi difference across the 6.
