The pharmacy services series looks at the NHS and non-NHS services provided in retail community pharmacies in England and Wales. Repeat Dispensing, also known as Batch repeat dispensing is an 'Essential service' as part of the NHS contract, a service that all pharmacies must provide, but is often confused with repeat prescription management. Note in England as part of EPS, where the system uses electronic prescriptions, it may be carried out slightly differently, known as eRD or electronic repeat dispensing. This learning is ideal for pharmacy students, pharmacists, pre-reg trainees or anyone working in or interested in community pharmacy in Wales and England, to get an understanding of how pharmacy operates.
This series tries to show the value of community pharmacy and clear up misconceptions about the services it provides. It tries to differentiate between the white paper repeat forms, and the repeat dispensing on the green prescriptions. I try to facilitate learning with a more animated and dynamic approach to hopefully make pharmacy concepts easier to understand.

Thanks for watching! Unfortunately we are transitioning away from them at present though I have quite a bit of experience with it - what in particular were you after from it?

Hi thank you for your video. I have been working in a pharmacy , i have started to order the repeat request for the patient through the proscript but i get confused about what i should order. For eg a 1 of 6 med were requested on 6/10 then again it shows 30/10 of 2 of 6 then 30/10 of 3 of 6 and so on. I hope you understand what i am trying to say can you please elaborate on the easiest way of requesting so that I don't irritate my colleague. Thank you

Hello, I’m afraid I’m not fully aware of what you mean. What to order depends on what the patient needs. Generally with surgeries they will only issue items that are within around a week or so before they are due (so for a 28 day prescription, around 21 days after the last prescription was issued) but it really depends on the working practices of the pharmacy and surgery
