Replace / Flush / Bleed / Change Brake Fluid on a Mazda 3, 6, CX-5 or any vehicle for that matter
You do have to jack up the car and remove the tires...I've created a video on how to do here:
Video A-Step 1: Jack Up Car & Support it off of Jack Stands:
how to jack up the car and position jack stands under the vehicle to supported it safely:
• How to: Jack or Lift u...
Video B-Step 2: Flush out OLD fluid and replace with NEW fluid -- This Video
In this video, I'll show how to change, flush, replace or Bleed your brake system. This is being demonstrated on a Mazda 6, but the process can be done on any vehicle.
This process is made super easy with a Mityvac, must have tool. See link below to get yours...amazon's price is pretty decent and comparable with other stores. I used to do it the old way, getting another person to press the pump the pedal for me, now I can do this myself at my pace.
I use Valvoline synthetic fluid...you can use any brand, but i pay a bit more thinking their quality is good. Link for amazon are below. You might be able to score them cheaper at the local store if you want.

you can place a thin zip tie on the hose. rather than spend money on that pump, I drilled a hole into the cap of an empty soda bottle. (also a small vent hole). put some fluid in the bottle with the hose submerged. Bought the hose at home depot to fit the nipple.Had my wife press down on the pedal. I then opened the valve and closed it. repeated the process on all four wheels. trick is to keep the hose elevated above the bleeder valve. Air bubbles travels up and away.

The pump is just useless unless you seal the screw, which I don’t want to do. I ended up pressing the brake pedal, much easier.

not at just replacing brakes. how old is the car, and how many miles? if it's never been done, then its a good idea to replace all the brake fluid in your car...

Hello. Mazda 6 v6 2007. I bought the hand pump. I'm doing it by myself. Do i need to step on the brakes or anything? Take out old fluid in reservoir, put in new fluid, pump out at passenger rear, driver rear, passenger front and then driver? Thankyou
@footprintsinconc
@footprintsinconc Жыл бұрын
Hi. You don't need to pump brakes anymore as long as you have the vacuum pump. This pump makes it into a one person job. Suck the fluidnout of the reservior and then add new fluid in it...and start at the farthest wheel (passenger rear) then passenger rear, passenger front and then driver front. Just make sure your reservior always has fluid in it when pulling fluid at the calipers.

@@footprintsinconc hi I followed your instructions but the pump couldn't pump any fluid out. I ended up doing it manually
@footprintsinconc
@footprintsinconc Жыл бұрын
@@ricr.4669 strange. at least the back up old method did the job. were you able to suck the fluid out of the reservoir using the hand pump? if yes, then the pump is good. if not, then the pump was perhaps faulty? did you have the bleeding valve open when pumping? was there a leak in the hose or the pump it self?

I was hoping to learn how to bleed my Mazda CX-5 rear brakes during a rotor & pad replacement. This is for a full flush. What do i do to bleed the brakes at end of rotor & pad rear replacement?

This assumes i need to even do a brake bleed. Many youtube brake jobs act like it is a necessity. Other tutorials say it is unneccessary. Your thoughts on a 2019 Mazda CX-5 2.5 FWD…or cars in general

@@footprintsinconcI am replacing my rear brake pads & rotors. Am i supposed to bleed the corressponding brakes as part of the job? Some say yes. Some say no. Is bleeding even necessary???
@footprintsinconc
@footprintsinconc 6 ай бұрын
@@SmartLifeSolutionsWork if you are only replacing rear brakes and rotors, you don't need to bleed brakes. I don't know the mileage of your car, or when the brake fluid was last changed, so I can't comment on if you need brake fluid replacement. bleeding brakes is only done when you either need all the fluid changed out or if a line brakes or you get air in the brake lines, then only do you bleed the brakes lines.

What is the secret to getting that strainer cap out? I fought with mine for like 30 minutes and almost broke it. Honestly don't think it's really necessary anyway as long as you're careful when the cylinder is open.

There is no secret... just allows you to suck out the fluid in the reservior so you can start with clean fluid in it...
@sultanofsick
@sultanofsick Жыл бұрын
@@footprintsinconc I understand that. I meant, how did you actually get the cap itself out of the master cylinder? Maybe yours is just a different design, but mine was basically locked in place and couldn't just be pulled out. I ended up basically just bending the hell out of it with a knife blade while pulling it with needle nose pliers.

So why is it that you changed to DOT 4 if the manual and says DOT 3, Does that make any influence?
@footprintsinconc
@footprintsinconc 2 жыл бұрын
"DOT 4, however, is gaining popularity due to widespread use of anti-lock braking systems and traction control, which benefit from DOT 4 fluid’s lower viscosity.....DOT 3 brake fluid is compatible with DOT 4 brake fluid. However, DOT 4 offers a higher boiling point." If you have dot 3, and only topping it off, you need to add DOT3 or "DOT3/DOT4" oil. This "DOT3/DOT4" is compatible to DOT3 oil. DOT 4 is an alternative to DOT 3 but not the other way round. When changing out all of the old fluid, best to go the newer standard.

My mechanic flushed my brakes yesterday on my 2021 CX5. I noticed the reservoir was still dusty and dirty. Surely he would have cleaned it prior or am I just being paranoid? The fluid looks browny? What colour is fresh fluid?

ALWAYS use the recommended brake fluid for your automobile. NEVER just put DOT 4 if it calls for DOT 3…. unless the Dot 4 fluid is backwards compatible with Dot 3! You should NEVER mix the two because if you sell that car after you have put the incorrect fluid in…. and the next owner puts the correct, recommended fluid in….. there could be problems. Always use the recommended brake fluid in your manual or what’s recommended on the brake fluid cap. This guy gave some incomplete advice.
