I’m a full-time mechanic and I just had to do the entire parking brake cable on a 2013 and it’s the most ridiculous setup in the world. It’s a nightmare. I’d rather use the car in front of me to stop

Great explanation! I'm about to do this job and this video was extremely valuable!! Thank you!

Good luck, and it's not that hard but can be frustrating assembling all the parts.

This was actually a GREAT parking brake video. You're the only one that explained the level. My commanders e brake pads shattered and that thing fell out. My hubby has been rather colorful trying to figure that thing out!

Thanks for the kind words. I do these for people like you that appreciate all the little things, because that's typically where I get messed up too. It's a bit funny when I get an obviously experienced guy (it's always a guy) gets mad because I dwell on a particular thing that's "easy". It's maybe easy to him, but not to the folks that watch my videos :)

Thanks so much for this. Broke a couple wheel studs, and needed to remove all this. Wouldn't have got it back together without your vid!

That’s great, and thanks for the kind comments. It looks easy at the beginning, but without a picture before hand, it’s a real problem

Just did this, my parking break wasn't working and that fulcrum pivot thing was stuck. THis isn't bad but there are few tips and things to remember: Few things to remember: 1. Make sure you note the orientation of that adjustment screw, don't think it matters but if you are going to use that adjustment slot covered by the rubber plug it has to be in the correct spot. 2. That adjustment screw works differently and is oriented differently depending on side. Not big deal if you see it but again if you are adjusting via that slot it is a pain. 3. The other thing to remember is that piece that parking brake attaches (pivot / fulcrum thing) can be oriented up or down. There is an arrow on it but on my car on passenger side (what is in the video) the arrow was pointed up, on the driver side the arrow was down.Not sure if it matters but take note before you take it apart. Few tips that worked for me as far as resembling: 1. Found out that it is easier to just do the long spring first then you do the pin/clips. Last you do the short spring (just keep one side attached at the beginning and do the other one last). 2. The pin and clip can be a pain but I found out that instead of moving the clip, just push/compress the clip and slide over the head of the pin, then figgle with it and push the clip in ... kind of the other way you would do this normally. 3. Adjuster and adjuster spring goes last.Those are easy. Took me a bit to figure out one side but once I knew the sequence it was easy to do the other side. Good luck, it is not that bad.

Hi Dave, long story. My project started out to Replace the Rear Seal and Rear Bearing. As I was removeing the Parking Brake I didnt see where what you called the Hinge Fitting or more I didnt see where it came off from. Ive replace the Bearing and Seal but Ive been trying to find a Video the Addressed this Fitting. Your video is the only one that even showed a Picture of it. Thanx for telling me where that Fitting is supposed to go and how the Shoes connect to the Parking Brake System. That really cleared this project up for me. Thanx agian.

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4WD - Here are some tips: 1. Grand Cherokees have different diameter rotors 330 and 350. Make sure you get the right one. 2. If you need to replace the parking brake assembly, dust shield included, you will need to press the bearing out, install the brake assembly, and press a new bearing back in. Had to go to the local machine shop for help as I do not own a machine press. 3. If you're at this point, you'll likely need to replace the ABS/Speed Sensor because when you remove it, it is likely stuck and will break upon removal. 4. If you replace the parking brake cable, check for rust on the link. Removal of the old one may need some TLC by the way of WD40 and a torch. Mine was rusted and took about 30 minutes of pulling, trying to open the fitting up a bit, heating it, etc. 5. If you do need a new dust shield, looking for the "split" type one that comes in two pieces. This way you can wrap around the hub rather than bearing removal. All in all, if you do it the standard way, you need a new parking brake assembly, ABS/Speed sensor, wheel bearing, and time.

HD brakes are 350 mm. Laredo's usually have smaller 330 standard diameter. These springs are a PITA and to get new parts on my JGC.

If your wheels can turn when the e-brake is on, then you need to tighten the e-brake.

I can't get these springs together around the actuator. Needle nose pliers doesn't cut it. Trying to figure out how to hook the springs.
@DougBrownVancouver Жыл бұрын
I fiddled with those for quite a while. But I did use the pliers successfully and had to use a flathead screwdriver to get the end of the spring the last little bit into the hole.

Also the comment from Roki A says he did the short spring last, if that helps.

@carlvogel44162 жыл бұрын
for folk with spring issues - its actually very easy to get them all on - for the long spring attach to one shoe then put shoe & spring behind the hub and tweak it enough to get the spring onto the 2nd shoe - after getting long spring on install the retaining pins & clips - after that install the outter bottom spring - stick in 1 side then using a thin straight or slightly curved PICK - push the pick tip into the spring hole and pry outwards to have the spring slip into the hole then just tap it with a screwdriver or something to pop into place. same for top spring after installing adjuster - theres no reason for it to take any effort or fighting

I started doing these videos by filming and taking pics of my repairs so I knew how to replace everything. This is a complicated one and having the original pics is hugely important. You probably had to refer to the other wheel too? Join the club, we've *all* had to do that :)
