If you hear noises from either underneath the car or from the wheel bay but cannot pinpoint where it is coming from - especially - when turning the wheels or driving over bumps on the road - chances are your Sway Bar (also known as Stabilizer or Torsion bar), or Sway Bar Links need to be replaced.
As of June 2023, this is where I sourced the parts:
Torsion, Stabilizer Bar 220-323-21-65 Mboemparts.com 1 $190.90
Mercedes Sway Bar Link LEM-2931001 FCPEuro 1 $29.79
Mercedes Sway Bar Link LEM-2931101 FCPEuro 1 $29.99.

New subscriber and new owner of W220 here, my 2000 S500 and I greatly appreciate the quality details you add to your videos! With much thanks for the time evident her in your work, and enthusiasm for your lift now replacing the use of jack and stands in so many older vids. Congratulations!! My suggestion for a future video if I may…how to eliminate tiny creaking sounds from steering column while driving, and similarly deal with such loud creaks from the plastics under front edge of drivers seat. My habit of crossing left leg while driving this magical carpet of luxurious speed is leading me to find reinforcements and dampening for this leg area. My massage switch falls out anyway so once all fluids are fresh from your good advice, I shall address all sounds big and small. Thanks again for sharing your expertise!

Thanks, Donald, for the very kind words. Fortunately for me, the w220 I drive does not make enough of those sounds to warrant a video. I suggest, though, to read the w220 encyclopedia in the user forums where I remember seeing remedies for various cabin sounds.

@masood-tv Hi, love your tutorials. Could you explain how you removed and reinstalled the ball joint that connects the link rod to the control arm? Did you just position it in the according hole and torqued the nut on?

Yes, actually, I have an older video that may show that part: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p7Firdar2aq0imQ.htmlsi=Vif_RtitEE8JenLn

Hello Masood great videos , they help me a lot. I have a question, other day I was replacing sway bar links because there was clunking noises and I noticed the sway bar is moved toward the driver side because the Allen screw space was so tight after all I replaced the links but now after a week the noise is back just not as bad . Do you think it's time to replace the sway bar also? Thank you so much

@a65366 Thanks. You should be able to reproduce clunking noises. If not, try to mount a camera there, drive, and locate the source of the noise or what you suspect creates the noise.

Alsooo quick question, why would you need to torque the lower bolt, where the end link connects to the lower spring/ control arm at ride height, if its a ball joint that turns? Jw thxx

I am not sure which bolt you are alluding to...would you please send me the minute and second of where I do that?

@@masood-tv the sway bar end links? Where they connect to the lower control arm. In the middle. Its a ball joint that you can turn, so im wondering if its even necessary to preload it before torqueing it.

I see what you are asking. As you know, the rule is to load any suspension part that doesn't remain stationery once you lower the wheels.

Instead of replacing the whole sway bar. I see aftermarket bushes available. In Australia the whole bar is about $700 but i can get the bushes aftermarket for about $40. How hard would it be to remove the old bushes? Im ok if it lasts 12 months or more for now.

G'day mate. If yours is an S500 or S430, the bushings are not replaceable. But, with some ingenuity, you may be able to do it. You don't have to remove the two ends to have a look. Just remove the 4 center support bolts and see if you can do it.

@brazzknuckzz1619 it just depends on the model and year. In some, the bushings are fused to the bar.

@@masood-tv yeahh the on mine, the s500, they are Vulcanized (fused) to the bar, but there IS aftermarket bushings available, and you can use the mercedes or equal strength epoxy to glue them on, (but have fun getting the originals off lol) but i just replaced the whole thing, bought it from the mercedes dealer i work at. Just cuz, thats what the manufacturer specifies. And i didnt want my bar slipping side to side, i wouldnt think epoxy will be strong enough to keep 4000lbs from sliding the bar side to side in hard/sharp or heavy and fast turns, plus, its a 20year old bar, thats designed to be replaced. Probably has more flex than it should or micro fractures and be more prone to breaking or bending, the bar was only 180 from mercedes, with my employee discount+ no price mark up that is

Hey Mashood, I just replaced one air strut on my Mercedes S500 and now the ride is changed, very bumpy and not the usual smooooth ride. Any ideas what might resetting.

Hi Edward. What brand? If it is from a reputable brand, disconnect the negative battery cable for a few mins and reconnect. If not resolved, check your RPM sensor and make sure it is good and torqued correctly. If still not resolved, get a good code reader or replace again with another unit.
