Hey, I'm an amateur, like I have only ever used my soldering gun (which I got as a Christmas present) for fixing my cheap electric guitar. Was nervous about changing the tip on my gun, but I loosened and tightened the nuts like you said, and it works like a charm! Fixed my guitar too! Thanks for the helpful info mate.

Cool,I found a the Weller 8200 N Made in USA like new, needs tips, but I got one of them working. No more waiting for my old cheap pen to heat up.Also got a Wall 1864,looks kinda like a Luger,it works too, $7.00 for both, what a bargain. Thanks for the video dude,it did the trick.

Good video, (Slight point though, the combination square shown is NOT a T-Square...)

Parallel jaw pliers. I reach for them way more often than any other pair. They cost money, but if you have them in your tool box or on your bench, they won't gather dust.

Great solder guns, im in England and it seems the dual heat 8200D is outlawed here any ideas?. US dealers will not ship to England. my old 8200D is still working bought in 1965.

Can you put the new tip into the side of the iron where the "bent tips" come out and use that to evenly bend both tips together? I'm just getting into this so I don't know.

About the shortening of the tip: yes it saves copper, but a shorter tip will get hotter. This will in turn make the tip life shorter. So WelIer has practical reasoning on their side, as well as in creased profit. I find it easier to make my own tips out of # 6 bare copper, at different a lengths (and shapes) depending on the work. A D550 is a bit overkill for repairing guitar jacks... But make sure you let your gun cool. Expansion and contraction will have that nut stripped after too many rushed replacements. The nuts are available, but shipping leaves you hanging dry for some time.

Does anyone knows a cheap replacement nut for these wellers? In Europe can't find them anywhere.

If you have a light with a pull rope switch. Unscrew the nut that holds the pullchain to the the lamp and see if that fits . One of mine did
