I appreciate your thoughts. I'm thinking that one or more of the 6 valves may be stuck closed. Tomorrow I'm going to try back flushing with the garden hose and see if water will flow in the opposite direction. My son picked this up on the side of road. My biggest expense thus far has been replacing the plastic fuel tank. Evidently it sat in the sun too long and the plastic fuel tank developed cracks. I think I can replace the whole pump for 100 or pump head for 80. Possibly replace the 6 valves for even less. I have zero experience working on these. I am a subscriber by the way and enjoy your videos.

Hey Bruce, Good news! I did what I had proposed I was going to do. I used the garden hose to back flush the pump in the opposite direction and got water to flow. Then I reattached the hose at the normal input and water flowed as you would expect. I reattached the pressure hose and wane. Purged the pump and started the engine. Working great again. Perhaps this fix might help you sometime.

Hi Bruce. Whilst recently travelling with 4 Canadians one of them said they found my Australian accent hard to understand. Funnily enough I had no problem with theirs. Now Bruce, I am only two years younger than you so enough of this old stuff, we are wise not old. However, when you mentioned the loop of rope, I could only think of the emergency one I have hanging from the rafters in case I survive a nuclear attack. I liked the way you deliberately dropped in "Allen Fey" just to see if we were all paying attention. I would like to say that I do the same thing with my videos, however in my case I am just the worlds worst speller. ;-)
@BrucesShop6 жыл бұрын
Well the Allen Fey was a spelling error Really i have no idea what that is oops sorry about that. A far as listening to our dialect it is pretty similar to OUR southern friends and we get lot of with that dialect on TV so you are more used to it than us.

You should make some kind of bracket for the pipes sticking out of the front, to make it stronger so if it tips forward it won't break the new pump.... most likely that's why it cracked the casing in the first place.... Great video.

Bruce it is a bad pump, but oil did not work. I was planning on dismantling it as much as possible then cutting off the rest from the shaft. Any tips on cutting off the part attached to the shaft and key? As to not damage
@BrucesShop5 жыл бұрын
Yes. I would cut along the area over the key. It is thinner and if you dig through you will hit the key and not the motor shaft. In this video i did NOT do this and nicked that engine shaft. But it worked out. This was a horizontal pump. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a9FzaNtnr73cY30.html

Bruce, I have a pump similar to this. It worked last summer. I pulled out today. Connected the supply water to it. Turned on water, no water came out of the pump. What might have happened to the pump to prevent the supply water from coming out where you connect the pressure hose?

Thanks for the video. I have a similar machine with a similar pump. I'm having one heck of a time taking the old pump off the drive shaft. It descends about an inch and then seems to get jammed against something. I'm reluctant to use much force for fear of damaging the output shaft. Is there a secret position or something to get it to slide off?
@BrucesShop6 жыл бұрын
Gosh. Just like you I would think that it would come after moving an inch. Have you got a method to grad the pump?
@dagrote16 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the quick reply! I don't. Perhaps I should thread a rope around it and see whether I can tug it off. I'm really cautious these days about applying force. More than once I done more damage to a machine trying to fix something simple -- or lost fasteners or parts ;-)

I was adjusting the unloader to put less load on the motor so it wouldn't stall it when I pull the trigger. I believe it is a pressure adjustment. I don't have gauges to check. But both the volume and pressure dropped.

I Have an 11 hp Briggs & Statton vertical shaft engine just sitting over here doing nothing. It came off of a riding mower that I put a bigger engine on. Hi Bruce your videos are so helpful, I am a retired Industrial Millright Mechanic. My wife and I moved to a permanent trailer park in Wheatley Ontario. I been fixing lawn morrow, bicycle,weed eater and power washers. I have a simoniz 3000 psi gas powered power washer to fix. The owner left it in the garage over the winter without winterizing it. Now when the water is hooked up the water flows out the drain tube by the unloader valve. I removed unloader value it looks OK to me. Do you have any ideas, could pump be cracked inside, I don't understand the purpose of the drain hose after seeing how the unloader is suppose to work. Would really appreciate some advice, keep up the great videos. Take care be safe

I have worked on many of these. Tried to fix them too. My advice is to go to Princess Auto and buy an equivalent pump for about $140. I have fixed them only to find they fail a short time later. Remember they run at the pressure of hydraulics but without the benefit of oil lubrication.

Pressure washers don't have a drain hose. That hose is a chemical/soap injection hose. You stick the open end in your bucket/tank of chemical/soap and with the correct wand/tip configuration your chemical/soap will be siphoned in, mixed with the water, and sprayed out the wand.
