Just installed all three O2 sensors. I found that cutting the wires on the old sensors and using a deep well socket wrench to remove them worked best. Especially the one up front near engine cover. All codes are gone for now, wheel speed sensors are next. ABS light brake light are on. Also I've heard you can get a miss fire code from a bad belt tensioner? Might want to check if serpentine belt hasn't been replaced in a while.

Note to self & others - doing the passenger upstream one starts at about 18:30. I had a heater go bad on mine and throw P0155 codes. Of course it was that passenger side one, which is really awful to get to, even after removing the doghouse; much harder than the other 2 put together.

ive had a p0420 on and off for about 2 years .....replaced all o2 and still have it.....runs fine and does not skip a beat....i gave up lol

Trying to fix the codes i am getting. P0137 p0141 p0155. It only misses and or stumbles when engine is cold, when warm I can clear the codes and they won’t come back until the engine is cold for 30 min. Replaced pcv, purge valve, plugs wires, ignition coil, cap. Ordered delco O2 sensors maybe they will fix the codes. Also fuel gauge only works when full, I think it’s a ground issue. Cleaned up doghouse ground and it seems to help, will hold out until 3/4 tank before gauge reads empty.

Yeah, for sure the codes and the symptoms you describe are the oxy sensor heater elements. The P0155 is the passenger side heater. The sensors have 2 circuits (that's why 4 wires) - one pair for the sensor, one pair to run a heater element to heat up the sensor, because they don't work well until hot. The heater elements burn out, become open circuit, and quit working.

I'm of the mind set that if you are going to get under the hood or vehicle , fix or replace old parts on the way out or up . Your already dirty and greasy anyway . Why do it twice if you don't have to . You did all 3 sensors , I think we run the same game plan working on the vans .

I would just make sure you don't have any exhaust manifold leaks as well, because the O2 sensors may not fix the problem I've been dealing with it for a while and finally fixed it!

If you get the bosch sensors they will not work …must get those new ones he got which are the right part it happened to me until a mechanic told me Bosch are for European cars not for American cars….

Thanks for the video. Just noting that from other videos I've watched regarding replacing O2 sensors, it might be wise/best to apply "anti-seize lubricant" to the threads of the new sensors when installing them. Not sure how necessary this is. Apparently, the worst case scenario is ruining the threads where the sensors go-which sounds like a PITA if that happens. Note: The video I watched recommend copper over aluminum anti-seize lube.

@@AstroVanTribe I'm hoping for similar "luck"! Not that I doubt you, but I'm curious if it can be reliably discerned if anti-seize lube was used or whether it assimilates/disintegrates over time. If not, perhaps the ease of dislocation was an indication that it was used!? Thanks again for sharing!

@@bastardchris I've been wrenching on vehicles for over 40 years - It's always apparent when anti-seize had been used. Of course my van is a SoCal vehicle with no rust - If you live in a rust prone area it might be a smart idea

@10:45 I cringed -- hoping for you that the video was reversed (mirrored). Happily you caught the fact that you needed to reverse course and click the "lefty loosy" switch on your ratchet! But that was a good bend you put on things before stopping :0). Also, I have owned a 2004 Astro for 2 months now -- and the only "real" issue so far is the P0420 code. Thus I shall follow your lead to Rock Auto and replace all 3 sensors. Of course I am convinced that the root cause is my catalysts are 19 years old and rattle when cold..... Thanks!

I replaced all of the sensors, the spider injection system (twice), multiple tune-ups and distributor(s)/caps, even a re-flashed ECU - In the end I brought it into my pals shop and had him do a computer relearn - Had to run that twice but now she runs like a top, no codes

Easy to get to if you have 2 elbows on each arm lol . Hey man , which OBD2 reader did you buy . I bought the blue driver for 115$ . I'm happy with it so far . I'm going to buy a smoke machine to check for vacuum leaks , my van is a conversion but the accelerator seems sluggish compared to my 2wd . I know is heavier but it's just doesn't have the same throttle reaction. .

Well, These are old vehicles and this is an old video - I bought this van knowing I'd be replacing everything to make it as "new" as possible. In the end, after replacing 98% of all the sensors in the van and doing the distributor and wires a couple times, as well as the spider injection system a couple times, AND a new "re-flashed" ECU, I ended up bring it to a shop around the corner and had them do a computer re-learn to get everything to sync together. That did the trick and she's been running like a top without issue for over a year.

When i had the P0420 i had a muffler shop replace the cat for around 400 bucks and the code was gone

Did your new o2 sensors fix the problem??I had to get a new cat converter my intake gaskets failed leaking coolant in exhaust along with my fuel pressure regulator was leaking causing fuel to dump in the intake causing a hard start rich situation all after 3 months owning it I had to replace the engine and fuel system she has been running top now for 2 years

No.... Still dealing with it, getting random misfire codes from time-to-time but I'm on it, just hard finding the time as I'm busy with work

I'm more confused about the damn clips than anything.. I know how to unclip them but they are attached to the frame & I can't tell if I just rip it out or if the clip slides off bc It looks like it can but It doesn't seem to want to =/

No idea, I did this looking to fix a random misfire or a code, I can't remember - This video is at least a year old....

That was the problem first of all with your van …..they replaced it with bosch sensors which are not engineered for American cars …they for European cars …the new ones are the right sensor it happened to me …I also replace it with thise bosch and it didn’t fix the problem the light still came back after clearing it three times until I find out the mistake …. I send it back and got those you got and issue solved no more engine light and it runs smoothly…
