Replacing 9V batteries with rechargeables ?

The VARTA 9V 200 mAh rechargable battery turns out to be a good buy especially if you can pick it up for just £4.99 as I managed to do. In this video I tested the capacity at low and high (for 9V batteries) currents and also tried slow and quick charging without finding any fault with the battery. On the pack the battery is listed as VARTA E-block 56722

Very interesting, especially the pulsing method, I wonder how these hold up over x number of cycles at the 100mA rate? I have a kind of nostalgic love/hate with these, making tiny Edison bulbs light up 40 years ago but have managed to rid myself 'almost' in needing to buy them. Great video and thanks!

Good price from Screwfix - I will see if I can get a couple. The low self discharge (apparently) of these batts is appealing for multimeter use - I would not consider NiMH for this application otherwise - bound to be flat just when you need it urgently !

In the spread sheet it is easy to do the correct summation approximation of the integral instead using the average value

What would be the right settings on the imax b6 mini for charging a Soshine Size 9V 650Mah 6F22 LIION 650 7.4V.

inside your battery are actually 2-LiPo cells wired in series, so the necessary program would be LiPo for 2S. According to the SoShine datasheet for this battery, the charge current must be limited to 0.2 *650 mA = 130 mA

@@TheHWcave TheHWcave Thank you Sir for the reply. I will give it a try tomorrow.The Charge Current wil be per 100 mAh increments. So 100 mAh or 200mAh on the Imax B6 mini. 0.13A charge current is not available on the V1 Imax B6mini. I think i will give it a first shot at 0.1Amp charge current, and measure the the end results.

yeah, I did not check that current increments was 100 mA only. Definitely go for the 100mA. Even if it takes 1.5h longer to fully charge

@@TheHWcave i need a 2S cable for charching the Soshine battery. But i dont have a clue how to connect the 2S cable. It has 3 wires. 2 black , 1 red. The soshine 9v6f22 battery only has one positive and one negative terminal connection. Any suggestions

@@africantwin173 who says you need a 2S cable? This battery has 2 cells, yes but does not provide a connection for load balancing, which is not ideal, but because they have to stay compatible with standard 9V batteries, they had no choice.All you need is a cable that goes from the two 4mm banana sockets to the two battery terminals. Make sure not to mix polarity. Red needs to go to plus on the battery. Select the LiPo charge not the balance mode. That should work just fine.

Very pofessional. It seems like those Varta 9V ready to use rechargeable batteries are still the best 9V LSD batteries available. They only have 200mA instead of 300mA that other's have. But they self discharge at 25% per year instead of 50% per year as most other 9V LSD batteries do. It seems like 9V block batteries haven't advanced in 5-10 years. Other form factors such as AA have much lower self discharge by now. Yes I know this 9V block is 7 cells in series, while the AA batteries only have 1 cell. But 25 to 50% self discharge per year is still too high for batteries marketed as LSD. Moreover from some ~20 ANSMANN 9V LSD batteries that I bought 2 are outright duds that won't hold a charge for 2 days. And from the rest about half self discharge within 3 months. And the rest has wildly different capacities. There seems to be near zero quality control for some of those 9V batteries.
