This video is about Replacing a caravan seal... Caravan Repairs.
As some of you might know I found the window in the caravan to be leaking. In the video, I will be showing you how I will replace the seal and reinstall the trim. I will also show you the new seal I have used and the tools I used to complete this task.

Purfect job, i have a Swift caravan with the exact same issue ,on both sides. Might as well replace all the seals. Now I know I can with out any previous owner bodgery getting in the way.

@@expedition320 Cheers! Would you recommend completing the edges with silicone? Or will the mastic sealant do the job? It's looking like I'm going to have to do the trim which goes around the entire outside of the side (for the awning) as there's previously been a leak in the front left which the previous owner bodged with a dodgy silicone job.

Theolyn Warrender, I would recommend using the mastic if possible, it will cover the any join that maybe under the trim. It will also seal the screw holes to stop any water getting in 👍👍

Hi, Have you ever had to replace the awning rail, and if so how do you bend the corners etc if it is ally awning.?

Michael Dominy Hi Michael, thanks for your comment, I have never replaced one so can’t really advise on this question, but if I was replacing one, I would cut it a few CM short file the edges and pop a plastic cover over it to tidy it up.

Give WD-40 a go and that makes it a lot quicker and easier to clean up

Thank you so so much for your video... I just got a c.van and its all new to me! I now know after today that i need to redo all he seals on mine.... Is this side seal the same as the one all around the edge, like roof down to side corners?

Yes it should be, just double check and try a small test on one of the seams

Just found a leak under my awning rail in that joins to the roof, this video came in so handy, would it be asked to fix the tape to the aluminium strip first then screw to the van maybe?

I don’t think it will matter really, I stuck it to the van first so I could see I covered all the join, I was also doing it alone so doing it that way was a lot better for one person 🤙🏻

@@expedition320 hey thanks for the reply. Over ordered the stuff now so will give it a try when ever the sun comes out. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than a full interior rebuild!

Thanks, always good to see a job done first. So the leak wasn't the window? - it was the body seal?

The water was some how getting through the body seal, with the window being open an closed the seal must have failed, the nice I replaced this seal it fixed the problem.

Hi, great video. Do you have to take the long sealing strip off to reseal the windows? would it be worth taking the window frame out and seal it all of the way around? if so is it the same sealing tape ? Thanks

Hi Mate great job on the seal looks good. I have a big leak at the front of my ABI Monza coming from Awning rail by the looks of it. I am a novice to repairing vintage caravans - my question is is it better to take the whole awning rail off like you did with yours and clean all the gunk off and do it properly or just try and reseal as best I can . I was going to use sikaflex as its recommended. Whats the best way forwards on this one? any advice greatfully received thanks mate!

Gerard McKinley-Smith, I would recommend taking the whole rail off, it’s it’s split into sections, just take the front section off, I have never used silkaflex, so can’t really comment, where possible always try to do the job properly, a bodge job will always come back to bite you in the backside at some point.

Hi Thanks for the video.. Do you Just drill the screws back into the old holes? Sorry am totally new to this, and my door has been leaking as it had slightly dropped. I want to do this also while am at it..Thanks 😊.

Hey, yes I screwed the screws back into the old holes, the sealer will cover the old holes so if you wanted to make new holes it should be ok.

Did you just use the tape or did you out mastic sealent over it aswell if just use the tape was this fully water tight after thanks

Hey, I only used the tape. you don't need any other sealer as the tape is like a sealer that never dries, hope this helps.

Hi, I’m not to sure. I would try manufacturer first. There may be third party options available.

Are you assuming he found all the same holes again. If not he’s also drilling new holes

@@neilfields5914 theres holes in the metal trim that will align with the holes in the body ... that’s why you don’t need to mark where the holes are 👍
