Tip to the tip - (2004 Silverado 5.3) Use a socket, almost the length of the bolt spacing, and simply use a pry bar/large flat screwdriver to push the shim/bushing towards the front (using leverage from the back/larger side). Takes about 5 seconds instead of doing all the other stuff. Also, no real need to remove the serpentine belt and just take it off the alternator pully and let it suspend out of the way. In addition, you can get away with only removing the throttle body side of the air intake tube. Simply flex it back out of the way. Everything else looked good but be sure not to get crazy on over tightening the stud on back of alternator. I have seen these broken off with too much force.
