Welcome to ‪@AutoScholarwithMrB‬! Today we are replacing the front brake pads and rotors on this 2019 VW Atlas. This is a fairly easy job that requires minimal tools. You will need:
Torque wrench, for 1/2 inch and 3/8 inch drives
13mm socket or wrench
21mm socket or wrench
17mm socket or factory lug wrench for wheel removal
T30 Torx
Brake caliper compressor or C-clamp
Anti seize or brake lubricant
Brake cleaner
Here is a link to the brake parts used. I do recommend factory parts before these, but these parts have held up well for this owner. The link below is an Amazon link. When used for purchase, the channel gets a small commission. Thanks for the support!
Pads and rotor kit: amzn.to/3MyRANw
It should take around an hour a side if you are doing this with a jack at home. Do one side at a time! Torque specs are listed in the video for your convenience. I can answer any question you have in the comments.
Thanks for watching!

@@AutoScholarwithMrB sorry for the confusion. That's not what I was asking. What I was asking is does buying OEM parts give you a longer life. Different brands of cars seem to vary in what people think. So what I was asking was if you knew, does Volkswagen have a good reputation in their replacement parts . with other vehicles I view several different aftermarket brake parts and do not find that they got the lifespan even though they should have been better compared to OEM. Other than eating the tool, it looks like it's easier to change than drum brakes, so I'd be on board to doing a break job myself since the rotors come off the back easy.

no lube on gliding surfaces. sand the rust or grit only. That anti-seize or paste will just attrack dirt and debris and you pads will hang up. replace guides with new ones if equiped is all.

My 2019 Atlas "needed" the rear brake pads and rotors replaced, before the front ones...at 52K miles....why?
@C7eeN
@C7eeN Жыл бұрын
Same here. Normally fronts go first, but VW seems to either use thin pads/rotors or for "performance" reasons, use more pressure to the rears. My uncle's 2020 Atlas was the same-except the dealer changed them at 24 thousand miles...
@davidbias2509

All my VW and Audis have needed rear pads before fronts. I think there is a rear bias to the brakes to keep the front from dipping down
@Reihenmotor5
@Reihenmotor5 Жыл бұрын
VW/Audi are rear bias for braking to reduce front end dipping. You’ll find if driven normal and not hard you may have the rears replaced twice by the time you need new fronts. Experienced this with my Jetta, Tiguan, and same with the Atlas since it’s about time for fronts.

Nice video but you used vise grips on the slides....that is a big no-no.. Also - the pads should have come with little metal clips that allow the pad to slide in the bracket. you replace the metal clips when you replace the pads.
@AutoScholarwithMrB
@AutoScholarwithMrB Жыл бұрын
There is no clearance for an open end wrench on those slides, and hardly any tension is put on them. You are just holding it still until tension is released from the outside bolt. The pads that I got were the only ones available at the time, as the supply chain issues were heavy at time of filming. They did not come with new hardware. Thanks for watching!
@teenice894
@teenice894 9 ай бұрын
You can most definitely use vise grips to hold slide pins just don't grip the rubber boot also if bracket clips are good no need to change. OEM Used ones are sometimes better than aftermarket new ones and sometimes you gotta bend the new ones so they don't touch the rotors. If it isn't broke or worn out don't fix it.. also this car is only 3 yrs old. I'll keep my OEM bracket clips all day!

Never let a caliper hang by the brake hose. The hose is multi-layered and doing so impacts the integrity of the hose internally. You will not see the damage done externally. Don't create problems.
