I didn't even know these 3.4s _had_ an oil cooler. My 96 Taco with 340k+ leaks worse than my 7.3 diesel which is saying something. Thanks for giving me something to check.

I ran across your videos from doing a YT search on Toyota engines. Go figure. It's nice to see more women getting into the automotive repair business. I taught general basic mechanics (car care really) for a few years and a few women really got interested back in the 1970s. All I could do was to refer them to either a trade school or community college, since none and I do mean NONE of the local dealerships were willing to take in a lady and teach them. I congratulate you on all your accomplishments. Plus your personality and enthusiasm make you the perfect roll model for women who want to wrench. Keep up the great work. You taught this old mechanic a few things too. Moe

So, wish I had found this video a couple years ago. My 3rd Gen has had a slow leak since I bought it 4 years ago. Found this video, checked out my cooler, and sure enough, leaking. Bought the parts and changed it out last week...not a drop of oil on the concrete since! Thanks

The sounds you make while wrenching are much more pleasant than those I make. I just did rocker cover gaskets on my 2012 Forester with the engine in. Just a little more than an inch and a half clearance to get at the bolts, clean the old RTV and get the rocker cover back on without messing up the new RTV bead. The sounds I made were much less family friendly. No giggles at all.

Just did the gasket change and I would add one thing to this great video. Wait for an oil change, yes, but also, go ahead and flush and drain your radiator. The video doesn't show removing the 2 hoses attached to the cooler. Those are radiator hoses running anti-freeze through the cooler. I wasn't expecting the face full of antifreeze I got when pulling those off and because it's a low point on the block, you lose most of your fluid, so, good time for a flush and fill of the radiator. An added note, my cooler was clogged as was the exit hose for the antifreeze. These puppies are $800 to replace. I dug out all the junk with a hanger and ran pressured water through it, it cleaned it out. Did the same with clogged hose. All good and working now. Thanks again for the informative vid.

So did the deed this weekend. Ended up having to remove the hoses as the gasket had hardened into black concrete. Had to chip it out carefully with small flathead. My recommendation to others would be just do this at time to change oil and rad hoses and fluid flush. Kill all birds w one stone. I did also replace the smaller hose since it was out. Now engine is oil free and beautiful! THANK you again for vid! NEVER would have tackled this otherwise! ✌

Good job, I too would have fixed that leak since it was in a component that could cause a pressure leak. Those engines remain remarkable almost leak free at high mileage. Most of them I work on have in excess of 150,000 miles and other than seeping around the oil pan and valve covers, they are pretty dry engines.

Every time you do a video on grim I get mad at myself!!:) During the early 2000's I was working at a custom car shop in Ohio. I needed another car that I could drive back and forth to work. My boss offered to sell me either one of the company cars he built. A mitz 2nd gen eclipse, or a 3rd gen 4 runner. Both really decked out to promote our company. Even know it was early December, we had crazy snow, and I have already been driving the 4 runner for more than a week! I freaking bought the eclipse! It hands down was the worst vehicle I ever purchased! I really kick myself in the butt for not picking the Toyota:(
