Replacing a fuel pump and fuel filter in a 2014 Kia Forte. This video is for entertainment and informational purposes only. This may work for other years of Kia and Hyndai with the 1.8 engine. We did this a couple of days ago and drove around to make sure all was working well before posting video. Do not remove battery cables as this may cause the computer to have idle issues.

It's the same on a lot of Kia models. Our 2022 soul has the same.

thank u for posting because i have to do this very soon on my forte. here's a tip when working with car batteries. always take the negative lead off of the battery first. if you don't, and you accidentally hit the body of the car with the wrench while you're removing the positive lead, you're gonna make some scary sparks and if it's a bad day for you you could toast some electronics. so if you take off the negative lead first then that can't happen. if you hit the wrench and the negative lead to the body nothing bad ever happens or if you hit the positive and the body after the neg is off, there's no path for the current and nothing bad can happen. all the best.

That is so true about the neg cable. We originally wasn’t going to this video, we normally do campground reviews. If I do the video again I’ll be more accurate.

Always start bolts or screws with your finger,or take a risk of stripping them out

FYI, the service manual states to remove line pressure, remove the fuel pump relay then run the engine to use up reserve pressure. Once you're done you'll need to put the fuel pump relay back in. This will generate a trouble code, so you'll need an OBD2 tool to clear the code.

On ours the relay and the fuse is the same.

Disconnect battery, turn on lights to drain ECM computer caps. Fault erased

Sorry that I can't tell you for sure. I know that it has a different style of fuel pump and my experience with the 2017 is limited.

I forgot to connect the molex connecter to the electric fuel pump when I put it all back 😂. Had to redo it

did you try opening the fuel cap before to try and depressurize the fuel system? maybe it wouldn’t have shot out like that

We did have cap removed and was pretty sure we ran the car until fuel was out of line. But it did have pressure built up, not for sure why.

The Rio might have a spin ring on top but most of the procedures should be the same.

Luckily now prices have dropped and it's alot more affordable to just replace the whole unit than before. Filters and pumps are cheaper too.

This is on a 2014 Kia Forte. Not all but most of the Kia's will be done the same way.

@@vewrvadventures1863 mine is the 2015 forte koup 1.6l turbo. It will run for about 45 minutes and then it will die and we have to let it sit for like 20 minutes to get it to start again it's acting like the filter is clogged

This is the ex. It sounds like your fuel pump may be shutting down after it gets warm. If you don't have any check engine lights most likely your issue is fuel. When was your fuel pump replaced last? Do you have any codes?

We replaced the pump 4 months ago. After it sits for like 30 min it will start and run for a while and do it again.

I’ll just add a fuel additive every 6 months like Seafoam, StarTron, Sta-bil 360 ethanol treatment, or Gumout. Unless this failed I wouldn’t mess with it.
