Don't use WD-40 or any petroleum based product on rubber. Use soap or silicone grease / paste on the impeller.

Doing a video on this topic with the engine on a stand is useless. Unless you want to turn off all the lights, stand on your head, surround the job with sharp objects like hose clamps, and limit the access area to a few inches. Now that’s a video worth watching. That’s the part of the job we struggle with.

The title of this is incorrect. this is how to replace the impeller in a crank mounted RAW water pump.

there's a screw going through the middle of my impeller, and the housing is too small to get a hex in there and even if I could, the screw is longer than the housing is wide on either end of the impeller. Next problem is there is a nut on the other end, but when I put a wrench to it and try to remove it, the whole thing just spins free on the shaft (like it is supposed to when the gear is connected to the engine).

Oh really. You just push the impeller in ? there's a woodruff Key to lock the impeller to the shaft. You're supposed to align the groove in the impeller to the key or else the shaft will be spinning and the impeller will be staying in its place. Aligning both is one of the most difficult things in installation.

I'm having problems with my water pump, it makes noise, however I see the water circulating and temp remains normal. so I wonder if I need to replace the impeller only or if is the seal to?

Hi Vincent. Great video, thank you. I had to change the impeller and noticed that there is a small water leak (before and after the replacement) from the shaft bearing. Is there a fix for this problem or should I change the pump entirely? Thanks.

Does anybody know if this is the only water pump? Why is it called a RAW water pump? On my friends Volvo Penta there is two separate reservoirs and caps that appear to be connected to each other. Are we supposed to add water to those? Or something else for that matter

What is the torque on the cover plate screws?
