Come relax with me while I repot my Adenium collection that I've grown from seed. Learn about what kind of soil I'm using, where I bought my seeds from, and how they became my gateway into growing plants from seed.

"weighs as much as a toddler, and requires much less care"-🤣🤣🤣Those basalt pots are a great alternative to terra cotta. The white ones are a nice contrast too. This video reminded me of the mandrake potting scene from Harry Potter.

Yes! I don’t feel so alone! You use broken terracotta for blocking soil and good drainage. I learned this from my grandmother. ❤️ 🪴 So much good information!

They grow super fast. If you want explosive growth, good soil, plenty of water, and a shallow, wide pot. They'll more than double in size in months.

I just bought mine in January on a vacation in Tampa, brought the little lovely back up to North Carolina where I had to keep moving it in and out of garage during cold and rainy spells. Now it’s nice & warm outside and I’m ready to learn everything I can about this hardy beautiful baby!❤ Thanks for any tips you can give cos I already know I’ll want MORE!😍

Someone gifted me one about 1 month ago. Finally decided to repot it today because the roots were growing out the drainage holes. So excited 😆

Repetative repoting is the best. Anxiety is definitely why I started gardening. I can't relax enough to meditate consistently, so gardening gives me all the peace I need to relax and centre myself. Your videos are also very relaxing 😌 I did some winter salad sowing while watching. I gave up my Adenium to my mother in law last March when I traded all my toxic plants when I got rabbits that roam free in my house. Now I'm curious which variety it was but the low maintenance wasn't for me. I love more interactive succulents which need to be trimmed and shaped every few months. I treat them like low maintenance bonsais. Yours look so beautiful! I'll be taking some seeds to my mum in Cuba when covid allows, great weather for them rather than here in Scotland. Will send her your vid to show them how nice they get 💜

My story is basically the same as yours. A few years ago I purchased 100 Adenium seeds and grew them with about 90% success. Over the years I have gifted them to family and friends or sold them online. Today, after watching your video I'm going to up pot the few I have left but I have a question. When do you prune and shape the growth? Is it something I can do today in the Fall or is it best left to Spring? I live in Canada. The plants are outside in full sun during the Summer months and indoors under grow lights through the Winter.
@Baetanical
@Baetanical 3 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, fall is a great time to prune as long as they are not dormant. I think you want to make sure you do any pruning a few weeks before they enter any winter slumber so they have time to recover. I only see problems if you start making changes while they are dormant. Thanks so much for sharing your story! I'm glad I'm not alone! They're really so much fun. I'd love to plant more too.

I'm both a "liker" and subscriber from Lake Charles, LA, so subtropical with only about 3-4 nights per year below 32 degrees. Even then, it invariably warms to the 40's or 50's the following day. Conveniently, I have a heated room next to my patio where I can scoot them in that event. Just to be on the safe side, I'll bring them inside when the temp's go below about 45 degrees. I have 5 Adenium obesums and 2 A. Arabicums that I got from Internet vendors last year. They're only about 5-6 tall, but old enough to flower. Any ideas? It's now 5/16/23 at 5:00 P.M. and it's 85 degrees and sunny. I've given them about 6 hours of direct sun today already and fed them lightly 2 days ago. Happy gardening! 🌱🪴

Congrats! Your Desert Roses are gorgeous! So healthy and happy. A friend sent me 3 Desert Rose Plants, instead of all the Hoya cuttings. It was a box label mix-up. One did not look good from shipping. They were sent bare root during a cold spell. It didn't make it. The other two are doing good. I have them on my front porch. I throughly water them when they are dry. They have grown back a lot of leaves. The problem I am having is the caudexes are soft. I thought maybe the root system has not completely developed yet and they are dehydrated. Any suggestions? Thanks! 😎
@Baetanical
@Baetanical 3 жыл бұрын
Yep if the caudex is soft and squishy, it's either too dry or it may be dealing with some ongoing rot (but that's more unlikely). Not sure what you have them planted in, but if its really dry, it might be helpful to switch to a glazed pot rather than terra cotta since those dry out quicker.

I just discovered your channel. Great videos! I have been growing a rather large desert rose. Currently She's in 14" terra cotta pot. It's never once flowered and I have had her for over a decade. I've tried everything: lot of sun and little water, lot of sun and plenty of water, fertilize and not fertilize. Pot bound and repotting in a larger pot. She grows lot of foliage during growing season and drops most of the leaves when I bring her back inside during winter months. Do you have any advise what else I can try? Thanks a bunch!
@chandramohanarakeremalliah67
@chandramohanarakeremalliah67 Жыл бұрын
I think you to fertilise them at least once a month You can use a teaspoo nfull of DAP+ Potash in one litre of water and try. Send me feedback after 2-3 months.

Maria says if you do not allow your plants to dry for SIX WEEKS before repotting, it will get root rot, and eventually die. Did you experience any of that, after repotting your plants? She shows a plant that she handled exactly the way you have, for a test, to show what had happened when she repotted it right after removing it from its original pot. And it had begun to rot. This lady has thousands of Desert Roses, and is quite the authority when it comes to their care, and its roots were rotted. I'd like to know how your plants turned out. They might appear as doing okay for a while, yet under the soil, they are quietly rotting away. Why would this lady go to all the effort to repot her plants the way she does, when it would be so much easier to do what you have done? I bet you eventually discovered that all your plants began to suffer and eventually died. Can you do an update on these beautiful plants you repotted in this video? I would certainly be very interested to learn the outcome, because we would all love to be able to repot them the way you have. But alas, according to Maria, what you have done, adds up to a slow, lingering death, for every one of your Desert Roses. So, if that is truly what became of your plants, now you understand what you did incorrectly. And thank you for your video...which might just be exactly WHAT NOT TO DO when it comes to repotting the beautiful Desert Rose! Keep trekking...into the mystic. kristi

@@poorsjm Hi and yes! Her channel is Maria's Garden and she is quite the little character to watch go to work! Tiny little Latino lady with enough energy for half a dozen of us! You can see several of her videos right next to this one where you replied to me. I need to repot my Desert Rose and I'm so nervous about doing it! But I'm going to do it the way Maria demonstrates in one of her videos. I also need to trim off the long branches it's grown, to take it down to the compact size and shape that looks so interesting, too! Good luck with your plants too and thanks for your reply! kristi
