Welcome to my new mini-series called "plant shots." I hope to keep videos under 10 minutes in this series, though I did chat a little beyond that in the video. The dog tail can has very minimal water needs. It is a “drought tolerant” plant that is super easy to care for! This plant is athletically pleasing and is a living sculpture!
In this video, I propagate and repot a Dog Tail Cactus! I love this plant! It is so fun to watch grow--soooo many plant babies!

I have a dogtail cactus and I’ve been scared to repot it (didn’t want to damage it, thought it would fall apart etc). I’ve put it off for months. In the mean time I absolutely hated the way it looked in its nursery pot. After watching this vid I repotted it tonight, split it into two pots. Love it! Thanks so much. Not too much helpful info about this plant on KZfaq.

I’m with you on recycling pots. I got tired of having to run to the store all the time for a little pot. So now I have a size variety in a shopping bag. They have been So useful👍🏻 And even better , I found the plastic hangers that fit these nursery pots perfectly. I hung my young dog tail cuttings in one.

Hi. Tip: if you roll your plant up in a newspaper, you then place the plant into the hole, add soil, tamp it down, and then remove the paper. You avoid getting spines in fingers and soil stays off the plant. Also, you might want to let the cuttings sit out a few days so the raw, broken end gets a callous/scab before planting, especially if you plan on watering it same day. (Look up root rot).

Hello! Lowes has great plants 🪴 Dogtail cactus are so easy to propagate… they often drop foliage so check the floor 😂 and stick it in soil and boom you have yourself another plant! Thank you for watching and commenting 💚🪴🌿

@@plantluxxe NEW? 7/2023 This is the same for me (lots of pups no flowers).. This is NOT a BAD thing! I LOVE seeing these BABIES!! .. On another note.. I am sad to say that in the HEAT WAVE of 7/20/20223 in CA (not to mention the rest of the Southern nation (!!!) I had my Doggies (AND OTHERS!!) get (getting) heat burned!! I am looking up how to care for them in this situation. I am in ZONE 9!!! but Climate change has made this so we ((SUCCULENT LOVERS) all need to be aware of how the ZONES are changing!

I have one of these and want to give my friend a piece or two to propogate, im scared to touch it tho bc of the tiny thorns, they irritate my skin, how are you able to hold it so easily?

Hello! Wear gloves, if it rates out skin , or you could use a paper towel to cover the area you’d like cut and propagate! These plants are incredible and shoot out tons of adventitious growth all over the plant when you cut it! Have fun! They grow super fast and multiply quickly! Thank you for watching❤️🙏🪴

I just got got mine today. I thought something was wrong with it when it was alright breaking. But I heard they grow flowers. How long does it takes for the flowers to start growing? 🌻🌼

They do grow flowers! But for that to happen it takes many years and LOTS of ☀️ Sun,,, I will let you know if mine flowers . I want to get it into more sun this summer. Thanks for watching💚🪴🌿💕

@@Guns_and_Saints I have 2 in a south facing window and one in a north facing window...the sun makes the 2 in south facing window grow faster...I don’t know where you heard that info but I don’t think it’s right? I will do some research and get back to you
