What do other people care about what YOU spend on plants? If I want a plant and can afford the asking price and feel like it will bring me joy then that's my decision to make, not someone elses. People amuse me, so worried about what other people are doing. I love the advice I get from you. I'm a total beginner and live in a very small town in Arizona, USA. I'm in the mountains, almost 7000 ft and semi arid climate so it's been a real learning experience.

I don’t know how I missed this video from months ago. I enjoyed it and here’s the two best takeaway from your content, Jan. It’s when you said “I just don’t appreciate that whole idea of let’s try to do as little as possible but expect most amazing results.” Another one went something like results are a reflection of your effort…your effort doesn’t always need to be working hard. You can also be working smarter. Wise words! 😁

26:26 I think of dividing or taking cuttings from young/new plants to be like an insurance policy. I like to keep them in water or moss in a plastic container. When the original plant is ready for a repot, I usually add the backups back to it to fill it out a bit.

I love the bunnings clear pots but wish there was a size between the large and medium. I use the orchid mix, Leca, perlite, charcoal, and dynamic lift pellets and haven't come across a gnat yet thankfully. (I used to use the succulent mix for my succulents and they were always everywhere). I stick everything in the one mix and haven't had any issues with root rot which is good. Your videos have been so helpful in growing indoor plants and the fact you're in the same part of the world helps a lot with figuring out the best care. Thank you so much ❤️

Jan... LOVELY!!.. I really like this video. Your idea is so brilliant and useful for beginner like me. At home I and my brother were doing the same...repotting our outdoor plants. I can learn many things from this video (new experiences that answer my curiosities about indoor plants). Jan....I admire your gorgeous plants in this Anthuriroom. I'll always miss them because I can't forget my funny moment with the Anthuriums ( They are all different and it turns out that they have been seen since being still small plants..😂..). I like your Anthurium clarinerium. It looks elegant eventhough it's still small. (When you pulled it out of the black pot, I screamed!..I saw some healthy roots... and They are!... The roots are so sexy!..) Jan....This afternoon I and my brother discussed about your video (dioscorea discolor). He likes you. He said, "Jan has a brilliant idea. Here we see all his plants climbing on the tree to the top of the tree in our rainforest. Jan has arranged them on the moss pole nicely in his apartment." And I replied, " Yes, That's right!.. Jan has got our little rainforest inside his apartment..😂..He's soo lucky!.." Jan...Thank you soo much for everything... BRILLIANT!!..💞♥️💐🌸🥰💚😊..

Thank you for this!! My husband's father passed in late November, he had about 10 plants, 4 of which had been my grandmothers (she has passed and he was caring for spme of her plants since he has a green thumb - mines a muddy green/brown 😂) so now I'm doing my very best to keep them alive and thriving (a few went about 2 weeks without watering because the family wasn't thinking about it understandably). Several are having a hard time so I took some cuttings and now i have a few small plants that I'm about to get set up. All that to say, this video has been so helpful to me. Clear pots just make sense, I will be using them moving forward. Thanks again for all the great tips ❤

The next plant you should try is getting a Sygonium Podophyllum (variegata) to maturity, their leaves actually start turning into leaves similiar to that of the Amorphophallus species, I'm not sure how to describe it I think it'd be a fun little project, they get massive though!

Thanks Jan, I'm on my 4th moss pole now on your inspiration and very happy! I have a controversial question: Have you ever experimented with using ice on the poles? Im thinking, of course in their natural environment they would never be exposed to such cold water as ice-melt but neither would orchids and it stimulates flowering hugely in them, could it stimulate flowering in say, M. adansonii?

Dear Jan! Keep up this amazing inspiring work! You've made me want to grow a jungle in my apartment after having been obsessed with cacti and succulents for years. I have a question for you - I'm having a really hard time finding quality ingredients for my potting mix where I am, so I have to order from Amazon in Europe, but can't find things that are specifically made for gardening - instead I mostly buy stuff made for exotic animals (reptiles and their terrariums etc). Do you know what to look out for when buying pine bark chips? While googling, I found out that you're not supposed to use mulch as it's made to stop weeds from growing in your garden and it falls apart too fast. But also, most of the products I'm able to find are called "pine bark mulch". How can I tell by reading the ingredients which is the right type of pine bark chips? Thank you 💚

I absolutely love your collection. I am a huge velvet philo lover too but living in Scotland my plants do NOT look like yours lol. You were saying you love the clear pots cos you can see if the roots are happy - what would you recommend if they are not? I bought a philo melanochrysum, I am fairly certain it was a rooted top cutting but it's not really done much for me in the time I have had it. It was staked on a bamboo stake and I moved it to a moss pole but when I did it I was surprised by how small the root system was. What would you recommend to help it grow more roots, I have it in a chunky aroid mix, with worm castings as fertilizer, should I just be keeping it warm, humid and bright and give it time? Thanks!

I’m amazed how you can pick up the plant by the pole when it’s newly potted. The roots and soil hasn’t even “stuck” to the pot yet?!

I know :P i’m not a scientist but it must have something to do with the friction between the pole & the aroid mix being greater than the gravity or something like that :D my medium is very light weight :)

New to your channel and loving the content. Have recently transitioned 8 of my climbers onto the DIY moss poles. I have a few propagated plants that I will be planting up on moss poles once the roots establish. This was very timely. Learning so much. Question: Do you think I can add a plastic backing to already established moss poles?
