There are many how to videos on KZfaq, although they have great information to learn from, with your videos I feel I’m learning trade secrets, the type of trade secrets most craftsmen never tell a soul. You teach the art and creativity of woodworking, not just a cookie cutter way of doing things. It’s fascinating the details you explain and the different ways of doing things, it’s truly a gift to watch and learn the amazing things you teach. Thank you for sharing it all with us!

Good job recreating the moulding! I just checked wikipedia for some shaper history and found one man invented a shaper in the 1790s and another is credited with inventing the shaper in 1836. It is entirely possible the 1840 mouldings were produced in a mill with a shaper. Could have also been made by hand using hollow and round planes. It would have been easier to tell if the original moulding had not disintegrated. I am always glad to see old buildings restored instead of being 'remuddled' as the Old House Journal used to say.

Good video, I didn't see an explanation of how you determined the angle (62 1/2 degree I think you said). Is there a formula if so could you share that, or explain your process. Thank you and keep producing videos.

Nice job. If you are making 1 or 2 pcs. OK. Otherwise why bother just change to new

Because it is restoration! If you change to new, then it will not be period correct, and will never look right.
