Was requested to do so in this manner. Not sure I’d recommend it for this. Obviously you’d want to use some sort of degreaser to remove everything when you’re done heating it up with steam.

Hank, While watching the video, I was reminded of a “Old School Mechanic” that I used to work with that believed in cleaning with steam or at least boiling hot water for heater cores, radiators and anything else that was very nasty dirty - Not too far removed from what people use UltraSonic cleaners for nowadays. This person was no parts changer by any means - He tested, diagnosed and really fixed what he worked on. Remembering the types of repair projects that this person was asked to work on - This person would have loved your steamer, Hank. For my use, I think that the Harbor Freight Steamer would be really great for flushing crud out from small engine fuel tanks or maybe smaller hydraulic tanks or problem areas that a conventional size pressure washer may permanently damage due to the very high pressure output. Another use may be spot cleaning partially disassembled engines such as maybe a crankshaft seal replacement if you have to replace the sump gasket. No, The Harbor Freight Steamer is probably not better than sliced bread - But could be quite useful for many situations.

Hank I always found that using a good degreaser to dwell on equipment I was cleaning before I introduced hot water or steam did a much better job than just steam alone. (Unless the point of this is to NOT use ANY cleaner at all) By the way thank you for such a great channel. !!!

Yea that was the idea. Just to see how it does without any degreasers.

Thanks for doing the video. I look forward to seeing more updates on the steamer.

Thanks for testing this. I was hoping to find something other than chemicals and elbow grease to degrease my project car. I guess I'll have to keep looking.

I worked a short stiny over a winter on a tobacco farm. My job was usually washing tractors. I have to say, the hot water pressure washer got everything steaming hot, and did really well on grease. Obviously not something that would be good for something smaller like this. The one time I did not get the parts cleaned I wanted, was working on a dump truck axle. The axle seals had gone years prior, so they just filled the differential and axle housing with cornhead grease. I must have spent 2 hours trying to pressure wash these parts for the axle guy, and couldn't get it all off. Starting fluid took it off like nothing. That was the only time I was disappointed by that pressure washing setup. This was always done around freezing temps, and I did about 30 or so tractors with it

Add some lemon juice or vinegar to it that might cut grease better

Couldn’t you put some Simple Green in the tank and let it heat up and steam with it?
@hanksgarage_3 жыл бұрын
No that would likely clog the machine up, ideally you would want to presoak something with cleaner before using the steamer, but I wanted to see just how it handled it on its own.

Does all steamers throw out drops of water and steam like this one?

All the machines I have seen do this

I would’ve sprayed and saturated with a cleaner degreaser, let it set first, then would hit it with the steam cleaner

Wanted to see how it handled it without too many cleaners at first.
