interviews and workshops. I dont think Ive ever done a survey. But I work on software so maybe its not as useful.

Would you say that prototyping is the framework of a scrum environment?

Indeed when you are using scrum, then you are using the Prototyping method per definition. But also if your organization is not using scrum, you can use prototyping as a technique to build requirements piece by piece and sync with your stakeholder frequently.
