Thank you for the videos, which really helped me learning. On comment/question, though. In the example with the inclusive or, which you run about 13:50 in the video, would it not be problematic if you entered, say 1$ ? You have a path for >100$ and one for >1000$, but no default path. Would that gateway become a defacto endpoint? Or will the process be running perpetually?
@rimondzzzz87652 күн бұрын
yeah, it would be problematic, but its just an example so its ok, in real life you need to avoid that

In OR gateway example what is the flow if the loan amount is less than 100 ?
@KateLate____20 күн бұрын
I know this is an over-simplified scenario for the purposes of the example, but I'm wondering why BPMN seems so overly complex. I'm here because I've been a Business Analyst for 15 years, and somehow manage to dodge needing to use actual BPMN ever, despite learning it at university.
@KateLate____20 күн бұрын
I think you need a more relatable real-life example, not just a call and email. Eg. Use fills out Web form AND identification docs received from customer via email.

you could go to bpmn.io to draw BPMN models. Unfortunately you cannot execute them like I did, but for modeling purposes it's fine.

In the demo of the OR ... Next time show what happens if the amount is BELOW 100, then the process stops, I assume ...
@theagilebusinessanalystАй бұрын
Good point, I missed it. Indeed, if the amount would have been 99, then NO condition of the OR gateway would evaluate to true, hence the process would get stuck. That's why it makes sense to define a default path out of our OR gateway, to ensure, if no other condition is met, that the default path will run. The default path is something like an "ELSE" statement.

How the hell is BPMN supposed to be agile? Serious question
@theagilebusinessanalystАй бұрын
I'm not sure where I said it in this video, but you're right. BPMN is a standard notation. We can use BPMN to model the business processes and then implement them with agile methodologies.
@KateLate____20 күн бұрын
I work in Agile I never use bpmn specifically. But I do use flow charts with decision points.

Wouldn't it be easier to first come up with solutions requirements first, then determine the business requirements?
@theagilebusinessanalyst2 ай бұрын
If we start with solution requirements, we could end up spending time drafting a solution requirement which in and of itself may be great, elegant and efficient, but not what actually is needed by the business. We only want to build solutions for the problems we have. Some products on the market are great but go out of business, because they solve a problem no one really has yet. Start with the true need. IT follows Business, not Business follows IT. Hope that helps :)

So I basically went from a Business Analyst to a Technical Project Manager, now realizing I should have gone for the Product Owner role. I a'm basically acting as a product owner for one of my projects but my manager and the CTO really want me to be a delivery guy focused on timelines/quality. Not sure what to do here. It's a decent company, but I really need to stay on the product focused path if i'm going to really enjoy my career.

If I can relate the Business Requirements, if I am correct - this are Epics in JIRA, solution requirements are more of a User Stories. Am I correct?
